What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yeah they can be done at home with normal tools. As for checking yourself... jack up the truck under the LCA on both sides at the same time (if possible) then grab the tire at the 3 & 9 positions and shimmy it back and forth. As your doing this check the rack/ outer tie rod for any funky play/ movement. Then grab the tire at the 12 & 6 position and shimmy it up and down/ back and forth. While doing this check the LBJ's for any play. If its really bad your tire/ wheel will have lots of play when you shake it back and forth.

There are plenty of videos on the WEBZ that will guide you through this process. I think Low Range Offroad has a youtube video for changing an inner TieRod on a 1st gen Tacoma.

 

Still have the front frame section I cut out and the Eibach/Bilsteins if you want them back

 

Same thing happened to me at my "regular" Firestone. "You need a new steering box for $750 because it's worn out and can't be aligned.".

Went across town to another Firestone and they aligned it just fine.

They're hit and miss...also why I get the Lifetime Alignments.

So...second opinion is cheaper.

 

That's another thing I was gonna do, is take it to another place once I checked it myself.

If it is bad I'm definitely doing it myself, $120 in parts and thats it

 

Anyone have any problems with 555 parts from Low Range Off-road?

Has anybody ever noticed a change in the ride after installing sliders?

just made my truck "feel" heavier..

 

This I expected and it takes the bumps better for sure. Definitely a softer ride.

Interesting the ride is better but I have noticed some other subtle changes. The steering wheel is now clocked to the right where as it was centered before. I still haven't had time for a decent road trip other than a few blocks. Was just wondering if others noticed changes too...

 

She isn't a young pup anymore. In Tacoma Years, I think she is finally of drinking age.

 

Mine feels like you describe in the few blocks I've gone. The alignment issue is prolly unrelated and just a coincidence. Damn steering wheel seems to change position frequently. On by the way, I have developed a steering clunk now...

Ha that's exactly what I'll be buying, save me $100 a pop

And one more thing, any way of testing to actually see if the inner tie rod is bad??

 

All new tie rod to tie rod rack and bushings with under 5000 miles...

im repainting my flares tomorrow. my armor is all flat black. As for the flares, should i go satin or gloss? leanin toward satin....
