It just depends on one's threshold for what happens to the cable. I mainly didn't want to spend the money for such a light tailgate.

Exactly like I said. haha I didn't know I had that plate on mine until I shut another 2nd gens tailgate. I about threw the tailgate through the bed because I was so use to shutting my heavy sumbitch! haha

In my case, it doesn't seemed to have damaged the cable itself. It did rub part of the black liner off, but the cable has been fine.

Have you had any issues where when you close the tailgate, it gets in the way and prevents the gate from closing?

Well, that's good to know. I like the way it operates so the gate won't come crashing down on some unsuspecting person, like my daughter.. Hell...I might just give it a shot anyways and then chime in later about how much I hate/like it:D

I had the day off work and without my wife and son until 5PM today so I got some mods done today that I've been waiting to do. First I replaced my Tacoma side mirrors with 2010 4runner heated signal mirrors with puddle light and put color matched 2013 Tacoma mirror covers on it so the paint would match and used a highlander defrost switch for the heated mirrors. I then installed bed lights with flood lights in the bed pockets with a old style Tacoma flood light rocker switch in my dash. I then did the daytime driving light switch mod so I can turn my lights off when I want to. I still had time on my hands so I hooked up a GMC Under hood reel light. Finally I washed my Tacoma. I started at 10Am and finished at 3PM. I still had time for a few cold ones before my wife and son got home! :)

Added some Maxxis Bighorns. Very quiet and smooth ride on the pavement. Very happy with them.

Pic's aren't working, but I'd definitely like to see these tires.

Edit: Pic's are working now, and damn they look good.

I just did a light sanding job, used some 600 or 800 I had laying around. Sprayed one coat of primer on it followed by 5-6 really light coats of the color of your choice, then about 4 light coats of clear. I had all those laying around cause I was painting my grill surround. The surround looks like crap if you get within 5 feet of it but the emblem looks like it came factory. I am out of town for work but I'll get you a good pic when I get back.
