You still have the cost of installation and setting up the gears for the Trutrac, so don't think that the price ends with the cost of the lsd. It installs the same way the ARB does with the exception of the air line.

My truetrac was about $1000. And I could have saved more money had I gotten my own bearings and races off of rockauto. Most people are $750-$800 installed. I could understand a locker in a 4x4 but it's a lot of money for a 2wd. It's still gonna b a 2wd

You can get 4x4 without TRD.

In fact in Canada they don't sell any 6 lugs of any configuration / model , base , SR5 or TRD that are not 4x4

Did you take any pictures of the gear pattern after completion? Could make a cool DIY thread if you did.

Timken probably had bearings for you. They had some for me on rockauto. I just didn't realize till after I paid $150 for bearings and races. They're were like $20 a piece on rockauto

Not all boat ramps are the same grade, and depending on how heavy the boat and trailer are a locker can come in handy for sure.

We're all aware of that. My statement was because of the $419 quoted above me. That isn't correct because of the cost of installation. Nowhere did I say it was going to cost as much as an ARB.

I understood. The truetrac would be a lot cheaper and I think it would be just what the OP would need for his uses

4x4 works great on a boat ramp

OP needs to get an SR5 4x4 , preferably DCLB

If I drive for a while my diff gets a little warm. I can out my hand on it for a few seconds before I have to pull it off

I've never personally had a limited slip like the Trutrac. How do they perform when both tires are on the ground evenly, like on a boat ramp? Will both tires spin the evenly or will they spin different speeds (assuming a loss of traction)?

I've used AmsOil synthetic gear oil in a Ford limited slip with clutch packs. I added friction modifier and it worked fine.

If you check out my build I have some videos of me testing my truetrac. Unlike most limited slips, where the most power goes to the tire with the least traction, the truetrac does opposite, where the tire with the most power gets the most traction. I drive in sand a lot, and I can watch the truetrac transferring power, it's pretty cool, sometimes the tire with the least traction will almost stop spinning. Also if you gas it a bit, you can override the gears and it will basically just lock into a spool 50/50. It really does great, even offroad when I lift a tire I'm not worried anymore cause I can lock up the e-brake and pull right out

Detroit does not recomend sythetic lube with the truetrac cause of the synthetics being so slippery it can cause the truetrac to not work as well. Also truetrac does not need any friction modifiers
