Right now I'm looking at an '09 4x4 SR5 TRD Sport Access cab 6 sp manual with 80K miles. It's everything I want but the price seems high. It's listed for $23400. and depending on where you look at online values, it's anywhere from $1700 to $4700 too high. Whats the real world experienced Tacoma owners say?

Too high, you'd be better off getting a new one then. They do hold their value though so keep that in mind

Prices are always going to be too high if the car is owned by a dealer. Personally, for that truck I wouldn't pay anything over 18k.

Without knowing the details of the truck, I look up a value of $18,318 for your area.

I can't afford new and don't want a payment. I'm looking to spend cash on top of my trade.

I'm trading my current Tacoma so a dealer is my only option.

Details are listed in my original post.

I am talking about FULL details. Power windows? Power door locks? Cruise? tilt? Standard or upgraded stereo,.....etc. etc..... All those tiny details can change the price from $16,898 up to $20,475.

After shopping for the last year I can tell you that the resale on these trucks is crazy high and because of how well they sell/high demand for a second gen before a potential re-design there is very little negotiation room with the dealers (at least up here in the northeast). That being said if you stay on top of searching classifieds and are willing to travel a bit you will stumble across a deal much better than that.

After searching for a year and finding a whole bunch of used trucks that were overpriced and weren't exactly what I wanted, I was just about to order a new one when I came across a 13 Access Cab TRD OR in the color I wanted (spruce mica) with every option I wanted, about 2 hours from home. 13K miles, $27,300. Luckily I was the first one to call (dealer took 3 calls on it while I was up there signing my life away) and if I was only able to get the price knocked down to 27k, but the deals are out there if you search long and hard enough.

Sorry, I thought the SR5 designation speaks for the power options, I guess I don't know the models all that well.

So ...yes, it has power everything, cruise, tilt, back-up camera, all the bells and whistles. No upgraded stereo but not important to me anyway.

I punched all those factory options into the KBB, NADA and Car Guru sites when I looked for it's actual value. KBB was @ 18,700. NADA was @ 21,700 and Guru was @ 21,485. After the first round of negotiating he's down to 22,800., not much I know but he's also offered to switch my new Bilstiens 5100's and AAL's over from my Tacoma to the new one for no charge at time of trade. To buy all that again would almost make the difference in his high price.

It probably sounds like I'm trying to talk myself into this deal but really I want someone to talk me out of it.

I know its been a few years but in 2010 I bought my 2008 DC SR5 4x4 with all factory Offroad wheels, skid plate, running boards, bed mat, tow package with 13,800 miles for 23,900 out the door. So for what you are looking at that seems pretty high. Plus I was still well within the factory warranty period.

Around here that would be about an average price from a dealer. These trucks hold value very well in my neck of the woods. I think 22.8 isnt a bad price, but it also depends on what you're trading in and how much he is giving you for it.

He's offering 10K for my '06 4x4 Access cab 4cyl SR5, which is what I'm seeing for trade-in value when I look on-line as well. 13,224. would be my OTD price after tax.

    Too few to list.
I don't know if you have a CarMax in your area but it's always a good starting point for value and dealers would match it around here.

Yeah there's one down the road and around here it's known as the unrealistic high price benchmark for vehicle values. That's the difference from one coast to the other I suppose.

Dude in Dallas has a 2013 Tforce, 8k on ODO listed for $33.5. Any takers? Why buy a used Tacoma at these prices.

Another justification of mine is the apparent rarity of this truck. I've only found a handful of 4x4 6 cylinder access cab 6 speed manuals.

Another one I like is 2K cheaper but 500 miles away, a year older and already has a lift but it's spacers and blocks.
