Just wanted to start a thread for all of you having trouble with these closed minded ignorant rednecks that put all of us japanese truck owners down constantly. I live in mid missouri with a large redneck/ignorant/uninformed population and I constantly take alot of unnecessary shit from these diehard "buy american" truck guys. when I explain to them that my toyota truck is actually more american than their american brand it just starts arguments that you just can't win. this has been going on since I was a teenager and continues today about how my jap stuff is crap and inferior to their ford or whatever. I work with a guy who's brother works for some large automotive quality control group and he travels all over the world, and he tries to give me the inside scoop all the time from info he's received from his brother on the inside. he constantly informs me that toyota and the other jap companies are not heat treating their metal for the vehicles to the same quality specs as american companies-he's a ford truck fanatic... he says they heat treat the bare minimum since japan has energy crisis and they follow that exact process in america too since their so anal about maintaining exact standards-and he says that since they heat treat to the bare minimum that the jap vehicles crack and rust much easier and are weaker in general. I always ask him, dont you think if toyota is maintaining a completely different heat treating practice than ford than toyota must know something that ford doesnt? and i remind him that i've owned 7 yota 4x4 trucks and i've owned every generation yoto 4x4 and every engine combo and never had issues with metal aside from the 80's rot problems...... anyway, I'm sick of fighting with people cuz i'm loyal to my toyota trucks when i know that my shit has always been far superior in quality too theirs... and not once have i started these debates and not once have i ever bashed on their brands........ ok everyone now its your turn for import vs american truck posts.......

For years my neighbor gave me grief (playfully) about owning a "foreign" car... until I used his VIN and showed him his was made in Mexico, and ours in Kentucky.

Two years ago he bought a Tacoma, after realizing how many fewer problems we had with our Toyotas. There are now 5 Tacos within a block of my house.

I see Toyota guys busting on Jeeps ALL the time. So - Toyota people aren't any different than 'those rednecks' when it comes down to loyalty and ignorance.

I have worked @ a Japanese owned tire plant since it was started & have seen the Japanese work ethic & management practices first hand. From this experience I can say this. The Japanese are not happy until it's right, they are persistant at correcting problems until they are satisfied,no matter how long it takes.I wish I could say the same for Americans, but from what I've seen the past 10yrs.it's simply not true.Simply put;most, not all,but most Americans are lazy, careless,& try to pass their work responsibilities off to someone else, especially management. Some have perfected the art of manipulizing the system to take advantage of short term dis.,sickleave,& fmla;and it's taking $ out of all our pockets.I think all products have issues, you just have to research b4 you buy to get the best for your money, then take care of it to make it last.
