Hi everyone! Decided to introduce myself, new to the Tacoma family here in Des Moines. Bought a (unfortunately) white double cab 2011 taco the other month and have decided to add some modifications of my own but need some advice...

    1. I'm looking to make my little pickup truck into a beast...wanting to level the truck and add 2-3" of suspension lift but not sure what is a good lift to buy? Heard a lot of ToySpec however...

    2. What size tires would look good on a 2-3" lift? I have no clue what I should do with the tires.

    3. What could I do to make the V-6 sound like a V-8? Possibly a glass pipe on it would do the trick?

Any other suggestions anyone would like to make? Maybe blackening the Toyota logo? Any advice would be helpful :)

Anyways pictures to come shortly! Looking forward to sharing and hearing from everyone.

Welcome. Browse around in the Suspension forum for ideas about your lift. Which you pick is going to depend on what you're planning on doing with your truck after it's lifted.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/11282-tacoma-lift-faq-guide-read.html

There are lots of choices in tire size as well but members typically choose a 33"x10.5" (e.g 285/75R16 or 285/70R17) tire to go with a 2-3" lift.

1.) The two favorites are Toytec coilovers (Eibach with bilstein shocks), or an old man emu set up. Both are great lifts for similar prices. I have the toytec lift.
    2.) Like Bjmoose said, 285/75R16 or 285/70R17
3.) I have a flowmaster 40 series and I love it! If you look at my build I have a sound clip

did you not see the color of it before you bought it lol? :notsure:

    1. Bisltein 5100's/Toytec coils or an OME lift for front and an AAL for the rear is the best/cheapest/most popular "3 lift on this site (I've got the former)

    2. For a 3" lift, anything bigger than 33's is gonna equate to you replacing control arms and a bunch of other crap...not to mention, you'll probably have to trim some plastic w/ 33's...31's or 32's are the safe route

    3. To make a V-6 sound like a V-8, sell your V-6 truck and buy a V-8 truck

Tire size doesn't affect your control arms... Could be harder on them if you wheel it hard but tire size should affect the angles

If you incorporate a lift, they do.

Well yeah, obviously once you start getting over 2.5 your angles are too much for stock UCA's, but what do tires have to do with it?

    My original quote was:

    2. For a 3" lift, anything bigger than 33's is gonna equate to you replacing control arms...

Note, that I started that with, "for a 3" lift..."

Also, you're the one who recommended 285/75/16's, which are notorious for rubbing control arms when the wheel backspacing is anything over 4.5". So, provided that he gets the lift he wants with the tires you recommended, replacing the control arms are most-likely going to be necessary.

It was a used vehicle and bought it at very good price :D

Oooo I took a look and I like your build, I like what I see...are those tires you have on a 285/75R16 or 285/70R17?

Yes... I was just curious about why you said tire size would affect anything because it doesn't affect the angles. Yes they are notorious for that but you can get the right backspacing and be fine
