Haha, yeah that's comical. You can have tint as dark as you want, but throw a sticker on and it's illegal.

the sticker part is actually up to the inspector if he feels like its a distraction or blocks any sight from the driver.

stickers are not transparent so they arent the same as tint.

if there was a big enough petition i bet we could get rid of recon. but we would need hundreds of thousands of signatures. Anyone have any experience with this. with the help of the interwebs i bet we could do it.... just gotta bust ass to get it done.

    Too long to list :D
    Thanks guys!!!

I asked him about the radius on the front windshield and the back windows for trucks and vans.. He said the windshield is technically only for military, and the trucks and vans thing is supposed to be work trucks but they had been letting it slide (why he passed it with the sticker the last 5 times) but recently somebody pushed the issue and it was mentioned on the news so now if you can see it from inside then it won't pass. He let me keep the TW sticker because you can't see it from inside. I was kinda shocked that I had to remove it since I've had the sticker for so long without problem. But if that was all that was standing in my way I was happy!

I also asked about bumper heights when he was measuring mine. Don't know about the minimum, but he said the maximum height is 33" from the bottom of the bumper to the ground. I was 33" from the top of the bumper to the ground!

Action line said they would call me Monday, but I told them I don't know what a call will do. Maybe better to call the city and county? And that my thoughts were pretty much summed up in that letter. I'll let you guys know what they say if they call!

Do one of those whitehouse for change things. Get enough signatures and Obama will look into it :p

I think they will measure to the frame for some people. I know they measured to the top of my bumpers hoping I was over, 30" to the top of both. :D Probably could have passed with the 42's.

Haha, I was inside the 4runner the entire time too. The sami was too light and the tree they had the snatch bock on was ripping out of the ground. Good times. :D

X2! especially with their unprofessional procedure of who passes based on attitude not build quality of the vehicle.

The amount of free revenue safety checks and recon 's generate for the state, it would take a miracle.....Jus saying

Action line is looking for someone to go on camera to voice their concerns. Since I'm being used as an example for getting a liability waiver passed through the City and County, I shouldn't be going on camera right now. If you're interested, call them up with your story and tell them you're willing to go in camera.

i would totally do that! but i bet it would be better if a small group went or called in. at least simulate the voice of the masses.... one dude saying they hate the system tends to just get shut out more often then not. group voice gotta be louder for those knuckle heads to know whats up

Just make sure too that the group is dressed presentable and cleanly shaven.. If they all moke'd out with slippers, tank tops/wife beaters, and heavy pidgin, then they not gonna be taken seriously..

I would volunteer, but I have never been (nor do I ever want to be) on camera.. I'm all good with voicing my concerns, just not on camera. I never like crack everyone's TV's :)

But I did some quick math, and here is what I came up with:

    3 inspectors at RECON
x2 inspections per hour =6 inspections per hour
    x7 hours a day =42 inspections a day
x5 days a week =210 inspections per week
x52 weeks a year =10,920 inspections per year
    x$15 fee =$163,800
    -3 Inspector's salary (3x~$35,000? per year) =$58,800

$58,800.. And that is before the rest of the staff that answer phones to take appointments.. And before any expenses like stickers, forms, computers, bills, ect,...

I know my numbers are just estimations, but unless I'm drastically off, I don't see how the city could want to keep the RECON around for revenue. Only reason I see to keep RECON around is so the employee's don't lose their jobs. Of course if they pay for the entire department with tax dollars and label all of that ~$163,800 as "excess revenue", then I could see why they keep it around..
