I think you'd be better off selling your tacoma as a private party sale. Get more for it, maybe $13k at least depending on the details of your current truck. Or try to sell it at carmax, I've heard they give fair prices for people looking to sell their vehicle even if the customer isn't looking to purchase from carmax. Might be worth looking into

I thought of that thanks, but since I need my truck daily for work I really can't afford the down time between selling one and buying another. This scenario would really suck if mine sold and then I couldn't find the one I want.

    exactly why I went used.

Local dealership had a 2009 white double cab TRD with 26k for $28k.

Sorry but no thanks, the underside was rotted like the person never washed it

No no no and NO! I'm sure we've all heard these kind of promises that dealerships make and never fall through with it, whether it's a new backup camera that turns out to be a shitty aftermarket one to this kind of thing where it's a more costly based product swap. He'll pull the whole not answer the phone or respond help-my-dealer-just-vanished-off-the-face-of-the-earth kind of thing. I know there's some real guys that actually help out their customer but then there's more than half of salesmen who want to make a quick buck spilling lies to appeal to others.

Again, I'll play my own advocate. I've spent the last two weeks talking to every dealership douchbag in the area. The place that has the truck I want isn't a dealership but what I call a high-end car lot, mom and pop but not asshats. He has his own garage and offered to trade out my suspension when I said I'll hate to loose it in the trade. So far this guy is a non douch.

If you like the truck enough make an offer or buy the truck as priced. Money is a funny thing. Some people lose sleep over it some don't.

Don't think this has been covered here yet, but have you done a Car Fax on it? If a Mom & Pop place has it they probably bought it at auction. Even with Car Fax you don't know what kind of engine work or problems it's had. It will say whether or not it was bought at auction. And if that's the case, I wouldn't touch it. Have you checked what the dealers will give you on a trade on a new truck? That might be the way to go.

If you're trading with a Toyota dealer tell him you know he's gonna make a fortune on your truck especially if it's older than the one your getting since the depreciation has already (likely if youre in a Tacoma) leveled off.

A Tacoma for a Tacoma with cash should be enough as long as every is accepting fair prices. As long as no gets too greedy everyone walks away happy.

It's not called being ripped off, it's called applying a monetary value to the things that are important to you.

Every ranger driver thinks those of us that paid extra for that little Toyota symbol hot ripped off.

Everyone of us thinks the guy the buys a GM is gonna regret it when the thing falls apart too soon got ripped off.

Everyone weighs variables differently...in a forum where everyone drives the same thing, you are just more likely to find people who agree with your logic.

Paying above market value for a truck is being ripped off, which is what we are talking about here.

You are talking about consumer value when you compare the Ranger, Tacoma and Colorado.

If they pay such good trade in prices why not go to CarMax and sell them your truck then with the money you got go buy your newer taco. It looks like they will buy your truck even if you don't buy one of theirs.

if you sell to Carmax and buy at another dealer you do not get the sales tax credit so you need to figure that in. The credit is the only reason I would trade versus selling myself.

Wait.....sales tax credit??? You mean the reduction in out the door pricing due to the offset of the trade? I guess depending on the difference in the carmax pricing and the dealer pricing there might not be much of an offset.

In my area TRD White Access cabs are extremity rare. I was scrolling thru eBay found one locally 2009, loaded :) with 50K books, papers, services dealer stamped, dealer installed lift and Fuel TROPHY wheels with new NITTO 285/70R17. 22k cash BOOM DONE,

I wasn't really looking to buy, sold my 2000 in five days with a sign in my driveway for 11k full price.

I bought a doublecab 2010 4x4 TRD Sport with supercharger at 80k miles for the same amount. Larger cab and supercharger for the same price tells me yours is a bit high.

In New Mexico I found used was more than new. Used vehicles 2010 to 2013 have at least 30K miles on them and have multiple rashes from parking lots. Closes I found was used at $30,100, so I bought new for $30,400.
