I found that putting an extra seat cushion and seat covers help me be comfortable. I sit a little higher too :)

Still having the issue? As others have suggested try a back pillow of some sort, I'm havinga hard time understanding what your pain is. Others here have had issues and solved there problem and yet your back still aches......

Yeah, I bought a 3in pitched seat riser from Vermont Country Store. Yes, it works to a degree, but you do feel nothing but that small cushion if it is just placed on top of the seat bottom. So I decided to take the riser and place it between the spring and the seat bottom. It did alleviate the back pain, but the tradeoff is you sit up high enough to almost touch the roof. I will live with that for now, but eventually I will just get that bottom re-shaped to sit more like an american truck seat. Piece of cake.......fingers crossed, of course.

My first tacoma was a 12 sr5 which was totaled and my replacement was a 14 trd or
    With the upgraded seats

The sr5 seats are a basic bucket. They are identical in shape to my 03 corolla, so much so that the corolla now has my old seat covers. I didn't hate them like some others do, but my back would hurt after a few hours in the seat

The trd seat has a bit more shape to it, it hugs my body better and generally feels more supportive. Some days I can spend 3-4 hours driving for work and feel fine when I'm done

I didn't mind the sr5 seat, but the trd is definatly nicer

The seats I have are trd. I was hoping someone might have some info on either modifying them or switching them out.

Honestly as a new 2014 owner, I agree here - The seats are not supportive or comfortable, they are tolerable. I have tried to find some info about possibly swapping in a 4runner seat up through year model 2008 they should be similar - I have also considered a decent aftermarket set of seats, a good set of Recaros from an Evo8/9/10 are loads more comfortable and should fit relatively easily.

I have also considered adding leather to the existing seats but I don't think that will change the over all seat comfort for me - so i'm a bit torn.

Bucket seats are the route I was thinking. Comfortable. Hold you in place. I'm 6'4 so I will bring my seat back further than allowed with the stock seats. Not enough leg room. Those evo so seats are so nice.

As has been said, its a personal preference based on body shape, height, weight, proportion, etc. I have a '14 Sport and after 2000 miles I am facing the same thoughts as the original poster. I am 5'11" 210 lbs and the seats are not good for me. The angle of the seat base is too steep towards the back of the seat and the lumbar is not good enough. Also, the wheel tilt does not provide enough length of adjustment, the end result is I sit too close to the pedals, the seat makes my hamstrings hurt and lack of seat adjustment options mean can never get comfortable.

I switched from an '03 4Runner with leather. The ergonomics were much better and once I got the seats adjusted, I never thought about them for all the years I owned it. I think Toyota should have come up with a 2014 Tacoma seat that is at least on par with a model 11 years older.

So, the options seem to be either a bunch of half measures such as cushions or seat covers. Or have an upholsterer add/remove padding and have leather added(was planning on leather expense anyways), buy all new racing seat or sell it. The only other option I can think of is if it's possible to put a 1" spacer where the seat bolts to the floor, thus angling the seat forward. Then my head might hit the ceiling but at least I won't be walking around like a 90 y/o geezer with sciatica.

Bottom line is, for many the seats are great, but for many the seats are not compatible and I admit I am a little pissed at Toyota for not putting a little more effort into the options for the seats.

If anyone has another option so I can enjoy my new Toy Taco, I'd appreciate some real world experience on how they solved the issue.

Nice! At least some success to a degree.
I knew it was the American seat thing. My dad drives a Chevy and the first time he sat in this he bitched at the seats. Good luck.

How hard is it to ad the cushion between the spring and seat?

That was the one thing I did not like was my TRD Sport did not have power seats. I was well aware of the seat problem before I bought my 2014 however I love everything else....came very close to getting a Dodge Ram just because of the seat thing.

I have no issue with my 2006 or the 2013 seats. My wife on the other hand has complained about both. She squirms, takes pillows, and tosses and turns on every trip. The worst part is having to listen to the relentless whining about how bad they are :(. I guess it depends on your personal shape.

So who wants to sell me their crummy TRD seats? Looking for driver's side with relatively low millage, but may buy a set. Interested in Sport/Offroad TRD seats only.

Seems no one around here totals out the sport/offroad models. Have only found SR5 & benches.

I may be replacing my fronts with some recaros - so I might be interested in selling mine.

I'm trying to find some evo X seats with airbags so hopefull I could retain the side airbag functionality.

    More than I can afford
I used nylon spacers and longer bolts to lift the back of my seats up 1 inch to fix the angle of the bottom cushion on one of my trucks.

Granted, it was in my 87 and they were Lexus seats, but it should work fine for the 05+ trucks.

I've just crossed 150K and my TRD seats are unbearable. The driver's cushion was always too low, so 'bump' was always hitting the wrong area on my back, no matter what level of adjust of the side knob. I took it to an upholstery shop where they made it worse. So I decided to take it apart, finding that the shop just shoved foam blindly, and that the factory foam is cutting though the spring matrix.... I readjusted some things and added a 3-section of thin wood hinged to fit the contour of the matrix in between the foam and springs.. helped lots but a year later it's just not working... I'm close to dropping the ball on used Recaro or Corbeau seats.. just don't know what to do about the air-bag sensors on the passenger side (researching) ...

Only around 180lbs so don't think it's too much stress on the seat, dealer blew me off (when under warranty)... I feel that not all were made the same, there were maybe supplier changes back then and I've, along with many, got a shit batch... that's my take
