    Hello my fellow Floridians,

I just want to share a mod with you. Trailer Wire Harness relocation.

I Googled this & found a similiar article in Toyotanation si I decided to take that & do a step-by-step on this.

    1) 2 1/8" bi-metal hole saw. Bought mine at Home Depot:

    2) insert the drill bit into the hole saw to serve as a guide.
    3) unbolt the trailer plug from it's original location
    4) get under your truck, cut the black tape that keeps the wires together, unplug the one for the trailer harness. WEAR GLASSES or SAFETY GOGGLES so dirt doesn't fall into your eyes.
    5) grind down with a dremmel or cut with a knife the excess plastic behind the trailer plug so that it is "round" enough to slide through the whole you are about to drill in your bumper.
    6) drill the whole in your bumper. (CHECK THAT NO WIRES ARE BEHIND THE AREA YOU ARE DRILLING)
    7) slide in the harness from the front & mark the 2 holes that you will drill for the bolts.
    8) I don't remember the size but it is the same diameter as the smallest hole in the harness. The left hole is smaller than the right for whatever reason.
    9) attach the harness with 2 stainless steel bolts/nuts. You'll be able to reach the back bumper with a ratchet to tighten the nuts.
    10) plug in the wire harness & zip tie them behind the bumper so they don't fall.
    11) DONE!

ALMOST FORGOT: get a small paint brush & paint the edge of the newly drilled holes so they don't rust!

I also saw someone get 2 L shaped metal brackets & install the harness behind the bumper (near the spare) using the hitches existing holes. Basically, the harness faces down.

I don't like this because the cover to the harness seldom seals tight so that's going to collect dirt & mud. Plus, when you install the 7 pin to 4 pin adapter that thing will be pointing straight down instead of pointing back. Looks awkward in my opinion.

Hope this helps you & anyone else.
    :)

    PS:
Whenever I do this to any future Tacoma that I may own I will put the main hole closer to the tag. This way the plug sits more flush with the flatter part of the bumper.

I had to get a ball peen hammer & "roll out" top part of the whole in the bumper so that it could be flush with the harness.

Please PM me BEFORE YOU DRILL if I didn't explain myself clear enough.

    Oh

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the moms in your family.
