This might be a bit odd sounding but I heard they are great for storing ammo.



First Aid kit, tool box, basic dry storage, collinB's fancy battery box/flash light contraption, and wood stove come to mind.

 

I know it could be used for ammo but I don't have any guns.lol

I use a .30Cal can as an emergency kit for my truck. This stays with me year round:



The purpose of the kit the "the basic" survival, namely light first aid, matches for fire, space blanket for warmth, tablets for water purification, etc.

In the winter, I add a 5-gal bucket with a gamma seal. It includes tarps, snares, sterno stove w/ fuel, etc. and is meant for instances when I may go off the road in the winter and be forced to survive for some time stuck in the snow.

I also carry a USAF helmet bag with recovery gear.

Well it got the name groover because it would leave grooves marks on your legs when you get done. Now most guides have wooden seats for the top. They let you pack EVERYTHING (solid) out.

 

Thanks. Its not a bug out kit but it does have what I need to keep me going for a short duration in a waterproof, durable container. I should add that I also carry a small trauma kit under the jump seat and an IFAK in the center console. Trauma kit has the usual plus a skin stapler. IFAK contains a Mojo Dart (that I know how to use). The purpose of the decomp needle in the center console is a PI or similar where I have a chest injury. I can decompress my chest vs. waiting and suffocating waiting for EMS.

 

Well theres your problem

 

I use two 25mm cans; one for POL and one for recovery and straps.

While my tonneau keeps most water out, having that crap in the cans keeps it bone dry. Also stops it from flying around the bed.

 

I use mine for recovery gear. Mounted to my swingout.
