Wiring Ground 12 Volts Help 06 Taco

Hey guys, just my Radar Detector Hardwire Kit in and I had a few questions for you guys regarding how to hook it up.

First, I need help locating a ground wire screw. I'm not sure what to look for, but the directions tell me to "Make Ground Connection by Clamping the end of the black wire under any ground screw."

Second, I need to locate a "switched wire" thats off when the ignition is switched off and is 12 volts.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Got a test lamp? You can find both with one. They're cheap and very handy for electrical diagnosis. The aux. or lighter socket should be good for an easy switched hot wire. Edit - Better yet, go straight to your fuse panel. Any dash bolt that bolts to metal should be grounded. There's one right next to the fuse panel.

 

Anyway you could provide a picture to help me better locate a "ground" bolt or screw...better yet what is a ground bolt?

You need to ground any electrical connection to the frame (which the battery is connected to as well) to complete the circuit so most any bolt that connects to metal is most likely (albeit many that are not) grounded to the frame. Open your change tray and then gently pull it straight out. Look in the lower left in the first pic and you will see the head of a hex bolt. That bolt is grounded. Look closer and you will see a blue connector that I used to ground a switch. The fuse panel is right there too and it has an extra circuit...not sure if it is switched though...but you can tap one that is by trial and error...or with a test lamp.
