It would seem we're on the same shitty schedule! :D

Good deal on the long weekend and hanging out with the family Rob. Wish I had more family time.

No, the parents are staying at their house UFN. My father had eye surgery (he's blind in the right eye and about 95% blind in the left eye) here in February and was scheduled for a follow up on June 23 but, he let me know this week he was planning to miss the appointment because he wasn't sure when he'd be back. As you know, my mother had some significant problems after a surgery went bad last year so I'm pretty sure they'll be back but, for now, my sister is helping them and they're happy at their own house so....

I enjoy the summer months but yard maintenance does get old. It was sunny and 88 at my house today and I've been mowing for about 2 months. We typically mow from mid March until mid November. I'll shoot some pictures now that everything is in full bloom at my place and post them up in a few days. It's SO green when compared to winter.

Are your son and his family still moving down?

Yes, that's the plan. His current boss is looking for two weeks.

Man Rob as you we've discussed I'm pretty excited about him moving in what I think is the right direction but, I find I'm also not overly excited about having a full house again. Almost feel guilty saying it but, I do enjoy living alone.

At least I'm staying clean in my work space tonight...not always the case.

I dream of flying but then look at my bank account and hear the epic collision of that dream crashing into reality. :(

Ah well, perhaps in my next life!

Yeah, I know that feeling, so don't feel bad, it's natural. I wasn't thrilled the two times we've "hosted" my oldest son and his family as they tried to figure out where they wanted to live (Alaska or Lower 48). My wife was thrilled to have the grandkids around full time, but it was a little irritating for me. I think it'll work out for you. You know it's the right thing for him and I think you'll get a lot of satisfaction out of getting them headed in the right direction. Chances are they'll want to move out on their own again as soon as they are financially able. My gut tells me it's as uncomfortable for them as it is for you. Take it a little bit at a time, and help them stay focused on the goal of improving their quality of life. Quality of life includes independence. ;)

And I'll be around when you need to vent without hurting anybody right there with you.

You should do it. It's not as expensive as you might think. I bought a Cessna 150 (IFR), did my training, flew it for about 10 years for I'd guess less than $10k out of pocket. Insurance was about $600 a year, the aircraft was clean (though older with some hours & cycles on it) so the annuals were cheap. I did all my own routine maintenance. I sold it for about twice what I paid for it. I also did the autogas STC so my fuel cost were on par with driving a Tacoma in terms of MPGs. Kept it parked at a farmers field next to my place for free...

I'm here for you brother. Things happen for a reason. Couple of 40+ yr olds with similar backgrounds working nightshifts BSing on TW seems random ... :notsure: ;)

Later Joe ... Have a good rest of your shift.

21 over here pulling 12 hour nightshift. I'm rolling back to days tomorrow (I'm off at 6AM, should be back in around noon) to help pack up and then I'll be on the road from Iowa to Alabama the next day.

Maybe out on the eastern plains of the state but I didn't hear of anything. Tornadoes west of I-25 and in the mountains are extremely rare.

Unfortunately Rob I've been getting AARP cards since I was about 35 and as far as my dirty tricks...I can't even remember to take my dip out of my pocket before I do laundry. I just gotta pray the whippersnappers take pity on an old man.
