Also, this ^. I'm not a Tebow fan, but it was because he wasn't a QB, and refused to move from QB. (The fact that he's a gator and consistently beat UGA didn't help him, either)

I don't really follow college football other than how it feeds the NFL, but I'd have been a rah-rah Timmay supporter if he didn't keep jamming Jesus up my ass every 4 seconds.

I would agree. If Michael Sam talks about homosexuality every chance he gets during an interview then I'll dislike him just as I dislike Tebow. As far as his onscreen kiss, in the moment it was no different than what I've seen straight players do time and time again. It wasn't a make out session. I guess I don't see the big deal.

If ESPN wants to replay it a few hundred times I would ask why you are watching ESPN. Sportscenter took a shit a decade ago.

Religious people who press their religion - Fuck them.
Religious people who practice privately - Awesome, have fun.

I think "people" disliked Tebow because he is the first example, not just because he was religious.

Well what about Ray Lewis? He often quoted the Bible during his pre game rants and speeches. But it makes him cool so the media wont hate him for it. Even though killed people.

Personally if you are using your celebrity or pro athlete status to shove your beliefs down my throat, you're an asshole. Just because you have a camera in your face doesn't mean you know shit. Why did Sam need a press conference to come out? Why did he have to shove cake in his BF's face? ESPN is just patting themselves on their back saying look how great we are, we're so freakin special.

Oh FFS, he didn't kill anyone. Let it go already.

Was he there? Yes. Did he keep damn quiet? Yes. Did he write a bunch of LARGE checks to those families to shut them up? Yes.

Did he kill anyone? No. Did he see who did? I don't know, I wasn't there, but from the way I understand it, he almost certainly did. Do I wish he would have squealed on his friends? Yes.

He may be a dick, but he isn't personally a killer. You should let that one go. It just makes you look silly.

I don't care that you don't like him. I detest him myself. But he was a BADASS linebacker and he didn't kill anyone.

The media played it up? I watched him with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears. Not clip mashups either, but longform conversation on multiple occasions.

I loathe it when people spew their religionbukakke on people they talk to. He did it ALL THE TIME. If you didn't notice, then odds are you either share his religion or just worship him, a'la the Brady Ballcupper Brigade.

Yeah he was the shit as a player, as a person not so much. He got into a fight with his friends with some dudes, who were found stabbed to death and his limo was seen fleeing the scene. The clothes he had on that night were never found again, he was there, he knew something.

Now comparing him to Tebow, RL also spoke of the Bible and everyone thought it was cool, Tebow does and hes a lame Dbag. What's the difference?

Difference is Lewis was a once-in-a-generation middle LB, and arguably produced a first-year-HoF enshrinement after 15 or so incredible performing years.

    ...

Teblow couldn't fake being a QB good enough to actually secure a roster spot as a third stringer after...two.

    ...

Kind of a big difference. Plus, Lewis doesn't inject the whole "My Lord And Savior Jesus Christ" every 90 seconds. He's Jesusy, but not THAT Jesusy.

Their athletic ability is irrelevant. They both were media stars, they both mentioned their faith in God frequently. Tebow never asked for anyone else to follow his path, it was just his words and he gets called out for it. RL does it and gets a free pass. He had a camera in his face constantly and that's what he believes. I don't believe Tebow ever tried to further any specific religion or church. He did not have a presser announcing his faith, I don't remember espn hugging themselves because there is a Christian QB.

I would have to respectfully disagree.

The athletic ability is not irrelevant. If Teblow had been a 15 year starter that had borderline first-year HOF numbers, I wouldn't be anywhere near as critical. I'd still hate on his religion and how he sticks it in your face all the time, but with that kind of performance, you get some slack.

This is what I give Lewis. I hate his religion and his church, but given what he did between the lines and that I usually mute it when he talks anyways, I'm OK with it.

If you actually believe Teblow never tried to further a religion, you need to go to the nearest Athiest Anonymous chapter and ask to be electroshock treated until you can admit you have a problem.

    Indeed I am.

While I would love it if people like him would do exactly what I said, and I wish people like those that enable them to continue doing it would do the same, I do nothing to project that.

Because, you see, I realize that this is my opinion. I do not have the right to force others to act on it, or to respect it. They do not have to change how they behave because of it. They are allowed to be themselves in how they see fit so long as they do not directly impact me.

Others, unfortunately, pass laws and change regulations because their 'invisible sky wizard' BFF says I can't buy beer at 7AM on Sunday morning when I get off work, even though it's perfectly allright the other 6 days a week. These fuckers can dance in a blender for all I care.

I hate Tebow as much as the next guy, but, if you mute Ray Lewis, you can mute Tebow when he speaks if you don't want to hear him thank his Lord and Savior. Him saying that doesn't "directly impact (you)" other than the fact that you don't like to hear it. So, the conundrum here is that while you say people can dance in a blender or that Christians need to be "fixed", and expect that to be perfectly OK, it's a terrible thing for him to thank God. By saying someone needs to go to "Aethists Anonymous" you are, in fact, trying to further a (lack of) religion, but you're so upset at Tebow for trying to further his religion. Funny how that works.

Here in lies the problem, you can say whatever you feel about Christianity, and receive 0 flack about it. The second someone criticizes Sam for being Gay, they will immediately be labeled an intolerant right wing asshole. But I guess religion isn't the same. SNL can have skits making fun of Tebow with Jesus, but could you imagine the shit storm that would happen if they made fun of Sam for being gay?
