What you should do is ask for this for b-day / xmas: [high performance]

"Don't you want me to be a safe driver?"
It would be a great way to "punish" you.

Dude I hate people that say that you have had shit thrown on a plate for you all your life.

I'm 17 and my parents make my payments but I sold my old truck for 10K and had 7k saved so they had 6k to pay off.

So I guess I'm an ungrateful rich kid with no personality and should go live in my million dollar house and audition for my part on The Hills. Damn that shit pisses me off more than anything. Screw anyone that comes at you like that.

Hell even if your truck was bought for you, be grateful, and treat it right. If you work hard to make your payments like most of you do I respect that more than you think. My parents paid off my truck, but ask anyone, I baby the hell out of the thing. No hardcore wheeling. No accidents. No tickets. I adore the thing and am so grateful that I was given the opportunity.

Sorry about your truck. Get it fixed and do your best to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Dont worry John, like i said before, i rearended my friends brand new rubicon while leaving school cause i was looking down at my phone so i was distracted and should know better. I hit him, i broke his spare tire mount, my bull bar pushed my bumper in, i pulled into the parking lot, pulled my bullbar out and the bumper popped back into place. Scared shitless to tell my dad, told him, he got pissed, but then later that night he calmed down, next morning called my friends dad, both were cool, 320 to fix his jeep, my dad said shit happens, we all moved on. your not alone John. plus im only 17 with this nice truck that i baby and take care of which is why my dad bought me this truck-people.
(this is not a fuck you john)

    Nor write, apparently. No offense.

    A couple things here:

    1) They took their vehicle that you drive *away* because you had a fender bender? This seems counterintuitive to me. It sounds like you need *more* driving practice, not less. They should just let you foot the bill for the costs due to the accident.

    2) There's a lot of fecal matter in this thread about "get in charge of your life rah rah! etc." I think what these guys are trying to say is that the sooner you take responsibility for yourself, the sooner your life will become enjoyable.

Parents aren't bad people. I love mine. But I'm not dependent upon them any more either. I think that has something to do with it. You get a different perspective when you get out there and start taking care of yourself in this world.

Is there a way you could reply outside the quotes? It makes it more difficult to respond to things. I will press on because I can.

Glad you're footing the bill. That's a good move on your part. Demonstrates a move toward maturity.

Fair enough about the truck - it's titled in their name, and they own it. If you really want out, you're going to have to put in the hours at work and purchase another vehicle. You're never going to get out on your own on someone else's dime. I'm not saying you're trying to do so...but if you're really moving towards independence, that means not taking any possessions that aren't yours.

I don't think that moving out and leaving your parents in the dust is necessarily going to bring you independence. Some of my close friends moved out and had to move back in with the parents within a year because they did not have a solid foundation- monetarily, maturity-wise, etc.

Start gaining responsibility by focusing on school and getting good grades (hell, you're still in high school), possibly getting a job, and then start taking over insurance and car payments. I'm not saying to live with the 'rents until you're 30, but don't think that rushing to move out is your ticket to happiness. Be smart, take it slow, and deal with what life throws at you.
