Nice pics. Thx for sharing. Sucks you got sick from dehydration.

For Sierra Nevada mountain trips I use a Katadyn hiker pro. About $70. Works great!

For 8+ hour dayhikes, I carry 4L no matter what. Remember I'm the guy who will carry 9-liters for 3 days in the desert. :D

I avoid doing overnight or longer trips where there isn't a source of water, problem solved

Yeah that works! But hey, it kind of severely limit your options for adventure, IMO. :p If native Americans could cover vast distances on foot 100+ years ago, so can I, but I'm probably a hellofa lot slower. :D

To a point haha but a lot of the adventures I like are going down technical canyons which more often than not have (sometimes a lot of) water flowing through them

My hats off to you. Do you do technical rock climbing?

I'm skeered of technical climbing in canyons. A number of years ago I almost got marooned while down climbing from Indianhead Peak to Borrego Palm Canyon in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Lots of rotten rock on class 3-4 climbing. Oh my God that place took my breath away so many times. Lots of places to make the ultimate mistake! The elevation profile is linked here. It was 2012' climb in 0.97 miles of distance traveled.

I rummaged up a picture. Summit is in the center of photo, canyon is below (obscured).

When I arrived at the workshop today, I found a new delivery:

Enhance Nightflux. Rechargeable via USB or handcrank. For the past year or so, I've been using a flashlight pointed at a waterbottle as a lantern. :p

25 bucks after shipping. Now I have 2 flashlights and a lantern. Stoked!

I've been thinking I might get a lantern. Headlamps work great, but a lantern might be a nice addition.

pics of it in action?

I like the black diamond orbit/Apollo/titan lanterns. I have 2 orbits. they're pretty bright for their size AND when closed up and ready for travel/storage the on/off button is covered so you don't have to worry about it turning on accidentally and draining the batteries. i have one of hte old style that is just a lantern and a newer one that is a lantern and flashlight combo

My camera is old and won't take pics anymore at night without the flash. It's not as bright as my old Coleman, but better than a flashlight pointed at a water bottle, if that's of any help...

The flashlight function is as good as my Maglight, but it's not really the right shape or size to use for that except as a backup.

The Grand Canyon was awesome! I'm so glad I went on a private trip with my coworkers/friends and a lot of their family. It was a fantasy trip, pics and videos later!
