For starters. I would've capped the ends of the tubing. You'll never be able to get paint in there, and it's going to rust out in it's current configuration.

I personally don't like racks out of square tube. It works. But, I personally like round tube.

Good score for a Christmas exchange.

 

The reason they aren't covered is because the nuts go through there for the cross members. I might have a busy throw some metal in there to close them up now.

Thanks Will. She'd be working at the Washington Pain Management Center... sounds like it would give her a lot of experience in other areas too.

 

I would say, thicker square tube for aesthetics. If you like the style, the rack is completely functional. Someone else has kind of a similar rack on a different thread and when I asked about mounting a tire underneath, I got a from the audience. I think it's a great idea to mount underneath.

 

And, I won't round out any of the mounting holes. It uses the stock spare tire carrier. I just unmount from under the truck, and mount onto this. I'll throw a picture on from my phone when Ben(btnewman) temp installed his for show.

 

Agreed, and also perhaps the ability to request weight limits based on tube size used. RTTs are something to consider when designing these racks.

 

This wasn't designed for an RTT though.

I wouldnt hesitate to put a roof top tent on that rack, it is all 1" .120 wall square tube. A rooftop tent is really good about spreading out the weight as well.

Thanks Ben! It's been a little tight for us with her not wanting to work... She pisses me off a bit though because she doesn't want to work at a hospital, which eliminates 75% of the possible job opportunities.

looks pretty good, im thinking of doing the same with mine once i get my B.A.M.F rack from Jlee. Wont have as much drag and im also gonna buy an rtt at the end of summer.

 

I'll be interested to see what you work out. I have a BAMF rack and RTT on the way also.
