    What Matt said........... Depending on how far you want to drive to work, there are 3 areas of option that come to mind off hand, Goochland (which will be easy to check out from Short Pump area since it's right down the road), Powhatan, and then down toward New Kent and beyond. Sounds like you have some time though, so you can learn the area and figure out what you like.

    Did some camping / fishing at Philpot Res in Martinsville over the weekend. Really amazing lake. It would be nice if they offered primitive camping on the lakeshore.

    Its a nice campground if you need water/electric/showers and such.

    I would have been happy with just a boat ramp and a place to pop a tent without getting hassled.

    Many of the campsites have some elevation change to them so are not suitable for RVs. Goose point was the name of this site. More tent campers than I am use to seeing at Gov. camps

    They also have an island with primitive campsites. I would have just done that but they still charge $20 a night and the full electric camps are $25.

    Lake moomaw has a primitive camp thats only reachable by boat or 4 mile hike for $8 a night if I remember. That is were I usually go, just wanted to try something different.

    Yeah, my wife won't go unless the place has running water, bathroom, and showers if staying more than one night. So we hit a lot of the gov parks on family trips.... Doesn't look bad, I'll have to try it out sometime.
