I believe under US Code the actual law states it may not be purchased or possessed on public property. Thereby excluding private residence & religious activities as well as other. The enforcement from a federal level revolves around states enacting laws to that affect or otherwise risk the loss of certain federal funds.

    Bingo.

More abuse of the Commerce Clause.
The Fed can only regulate the sale and possession on public property of items that have moved in interstate commerce. The Commerce Clause "allows" for that.
But like the 55mph speed limit, while the Fed can not make it a nationwide law, they can pull highway funding unless and until the states enact a law in line with the federal "recommendations."
Highway funding is a BIG enticement, particularly for the "flyover" states that rely on the interstates and have a very small transportation budget of their own.

Such was the case with 55mph and a number of states who's speed limit was "reasonable and prudent" prior to 1974 like Nevada, Wyoming, Montana....
Montana was one of the last to enact it. They would issue a citation for "waste of natural resources"... $5 no-points violation, payable on the spot, officer gave a receipt.
My dad used to have a few of those.

Lol my mom grew up out there when they didn't have speed limits. Her little toyota pickup only did 95 though. She also paid her fair share of $5 fines to the cops.

How'd you do that when you were born in '77 and they went to 55 in '74 or '75?

When 55 was lifted, nobody went back to "reasonable and prudent"... Texas and New Mexico are the highest at 80 on the interstates.

And Montana does issue speeding tickets.... a few friends of mine got them on a ride to Red Lodge. No clue how fast they were going. I was rolling 80 and cops didn't even look at me... but the limit on the Interstates is 75 so 80 would generally be under the "tolerance" unless they are looking for an excuse.

Federal law says I can't buy a handgun until I'm 21, in MS, TX, and Ca (at least it was a few years ago in Ca) I can buy a handgun at 18.

It is in TX, don't know the exact law but some friends of ours were explaining it to us the last time we stayed at their house.
