I got my used radio in today! It's a Venom VR3T 2.4GHz that is basically a ripoff of an Airtronics. All 7 receivers work great! Got 4 of 5 RC's programmed in! Didn't do the TLT-1 because I been meaning to clean and sell it got the last few years.

I like this radio! And love the deal. Just going to take some time getting used to an Airtronics again. Guess I had Futaba and HiTec for too long

All local shops are going to be expensive compared to online, but as for a ripoff? It would have to be trcc in my experiences. They have shitty service and don't stock many parts. so you end up waiting linger than if you ordered them online.
I'd go to hobbietat for the paint, or you could check to see if Hobby Company has, they are behind Ford in waimalu. IDK if Sandy Flemings has, haven't been there in ages.

Went to Sandy Flemings yesterday to buy some clips.. I don't know if the same guy is there everyday, but I was not impressed at all and probably wouldn't go back.. BTW: I mentioned Traxxxas and it was all down hill from there..

    They have paint..

I know a couple of guys that talk highly about this place. Everybody's knowledgeable ( at least for crawlers). And next door has killer shave ice and grinds.

Nope.. I mentioned that I just bought a Slash and I got a look.. He said most local shops don't carry the cars nor parts cause they can't compete with mainland prices.. He carried RedCat..

Just wasn't a really friendly or happy guy.. I was disappointed.

RedCat is okay, but its cheaper for a reason. The Slash 4x4 has the largest aftermarket and parts support I have ever seen! I think you made the right choice.

Even if I am some sort of HPI fan boy.. I still want a Slash 4x4 and may end up with one eventually :p

The guys at Hobby Company were cool and helped me a lot when I need parts for my Slash! So much so that I bought my lipos and charger from them. I didn't compare their prices to the internet cause the service I got deserved my purchase.

If i end up with a Stampede I may end up selling the slash. May not be able to justify 2 RCS and the Stampede may be more what I was looking for.. bad thing is a may need to bite the bullet and get one new.. used ones are going for close to new anyway even on ebay.

If you go Towerhobbies.com they have 10% off coupons ($30 off $300 or more, $40 off $400 or more, ect) but they are out of the Stampede 4x4 VXL until next month :(

If you have 2 RC's then you and your son can race :D :D :D

I did it.. Ordered a Stampede 4x4 non-brushless for my friends birthday.. $269.97 shipped.. Good thing the rest of the family chipped in a little. But I still gots a mild heart attack spending that much when I'm this broke :p

And still have the CC bill for the Emaxx to worry about

I feel the same way about Hobbietatt. I met the owner of hobby company, he is really nice.

Jason at Hobbietatt knows his crawlers and drifters.

As for traxxas, they are pretty good all around RCs, not really for hardcore racing, but a good blend of reliability and speed. Some people look down on them in that aspect, but they are a little pricey. They make good bashers.

Redcat isn't that good from what I have seen. Looks to be cheap parts, guys seem to break them frequently. Most RCs are made in China parts, and quality varies greatly between them. I like associated products, not high end but still competitive. They are owned by thunder tiger, though.
I'd give the rival a try if I was going to get another basher.

I used to love Associated, but haven't had any in a long time. The only cars I have kept over the years are my HPI's. Sold Associated, Tamiya, and a few randoms.. Haven't sold an HPI yet, only broke 1. And I broke a Kyosho too.. I think Traxxas is the perfect starter RC or basher. They pretty much get the waterproofing spot on! And so may different ways to take them with the aftermarket.

The guy I bought those Emaxx tires from on CL had a Rival, that thing was wicked!!! Little big for me though.. I brought my Savage and the Rival made it look like a toy!

I never been to Hobbietat, I'll have to check them out!

Yeah traxxas is a good starter, except for the revo. Total PITA to work on.
