Haha I can see the logic in that.

I enjoy teaching and have an interest in history though as well.

My preference would still be a civilian instructor for what I do now, just depends on how things go. But, right now I need to decide whether or not just get my general stuff out of the way towards a CCAF, or just go ahead an push forward with a degree in one of those two career options.

Yeah, that's the other aspect of it as well. I'd rather be able to go straight into another job coming out of the military rather than get out and then finish my degree.

The easier the degree, the more likely I'll have the time to complete it in the next 4 years.

 

Money is kind of low on the totem pole when making the decision honestly.

I can make nearly as much as my parents do combined as a history teacher depending on where I would decide to teach. And I'd be perfectly okay with that.

I'd make the most by going over to the civilian side of an RPA instructor. Plus good benefits. But, at the same time when stuff like a government shutdown happens it will directly effect me...

 

It's not a set job though. A friend of mine has had his masters in education/history for 6 years, of which he's taught history for 1 of them.

I mean, shit. My plan is to get my masters in fucking organic chemistry, and even then, the main reason I'm going into organics is because it gives me a broad skillset....cause finding a job sucks nowdays

 

That is true, there are people like that out there. But honestly it's not hard to get a job at a high school if you don't limit yourself too much.

With my mom being a teacher, I always heard about job openings for various subjects just in a 100 miles radius. they are definitely out there.

Contracting would be very easy for me to switch over to at the end of my enlistment. Job security would be an issue though... But, it would be nice. While I was in training I had pretty much decided then that at some point I wanted to become an instructor. Whether it be enlisted or contracted. I talked with both sides while I was there. I could stay in reserves at the same base I'm contracted as well haha

tenure is everything, and even if you have all your certifications, and a masters in your field, you're fucked if another older teacher wants your job

But, honestly it's flipped right now. Nobody wants to hire people with more experience, they'd rather hire somebody fresh out of college and keep them for 5 years. Right now many schools in Texas are at that stage where a ton of teachers are reaching/surpassing their retirement and are trying to force them out so they can hire 2-3 teachers for as much as that one is making.

I've always wanted to teach. The idea that you influence how/why other people do things from then-on is fascinating. My dream was to enlist though the CA's and end up as a drill sgt. lol

 

Yeah, I enjoy what little tutoring/mentoring/teaching I've done.

Can't speak in front of a crowd at all, but if I'm teaching something new to others I can catch myself rambling on and on about a subject I'm good at haha

 

ok so dose anyone still watch cartoons ever? well i was drinking my coffee this morning and watching tom and jerry. tom was about to eat jerry and jerry got a way and it looked like tom gave jerry the finger. I find it funny sometimes watching cartoons and stuff i watched as a kid. a lot have hidden jokes in them you did not know as a kid.

 

TN public schools SUCK!! I always had a hard time in school, but i also had a lot of personal stuff going on in my life when i was younger but not going to talk about that on here.


But now looks like HS grads can go to community collage for free for 2 years, i think they are doing it in hopes of more people going to collage.

 

God damn today is going to suck.

you say that now, but what about in 10? 20? 30? years when you have a wife and 2 kids and a house payment and want to set up a good retirement plan for yourself and your wife and want to be able to put your kids through college as well?
