Why don't Tacomas have electronic MPG data?

I saw a 2009 Sienna the other day with average and instantaneous MPG info displayed on the overhead compass/thermometer.

Why isn't the MPG info displayed on the Tacoma's, or is it?

I wonder if this could be done with a mod?

 

It's not displayed, however a Scangauge II can be purchased to display MPG among many many other things.

 

You have to buy a scanguage if you want that.

Still, it makes no sense why the technology is available for other Toyotas but not the Tacoma.

 

Just drive conservatively and you dont have to worry about it.

 

It does make sense. If they included idiot meters and other useless luxuries like that the price would be higher and you'd start a thread complaining about prices. It is what it is, you knew it when you bought it.

my 4runner has it... its not very accurate from real mpg.. its just a hypothesis lol. it does also have average speed. mpg and est miles till empty. today I went on 0 miles till empty for about 15 miles... filled it up put 22.904 gallons in it. I only have a 22 gallon tank.. must have been riding on fumes

 

Idiot meters? Useless luxuries? How do you feel about seat belts or speedometers?

FYI, The tacoma fuel pumps are in the tank and rely on the liquid gas to keep them cool and functioning long term. it is not good to let the gas get to low, especially in the summer..

edit.. just realized you are talking about a 4runner.. the fuel pump might be in the 4runner gas tanks also?

 

because tacos have super awesome easy electrical systems without all kinds of crap to break down

 

It doesn't have an electronic MPG gauge, but it does have this handy little thing called a fuel indicator.

Why do people want this crap so much? Less shit in my truck to break when it gets old.

 

Same reason why our trucks don't have all the other creature comforts that some of the other vehicles have. Our trucks don't even have power seats!!!

All that extra stuff costs money.... unfortunately.

If they added all that stuff, our trucks would probably cost $35 and be as expensive as a fullsize!!

 

i know this. its not all the time, usually once in a while. it just kind of sucks working 12 hours a day 7 days a week. sometimes i feel like i dont even have time to get gas.

 

LMAO- You just tried to compare a legally required safety device and a legally required data display to a display of a number that up until about 4-6 years ago no one cared about.

Yes...the TPMS light, the Low Fuel light (in addition to the gauge), the MPG read out, the temp gauge, and several other items fall squarely into the idiot light/system or luxury categories and do nothing by drive up the cost of the purchase.

You get TONS more info from the 150 dollar scangauge than you would from the 500 dollar MPG read out in the temp cluster.

This is one of the reasons I went with the Tacoma. No alarm, no power seats, no heated seats, no crazy climate control system, no inaccurate trip readout, etc.

If only I could have gotten manual windows and T-case with the TRD
