First PN is the plug, second is the terminals. They'll send them to you for free.

I asked this in FLtrucks thread and got no response. Do you guys think this mod would work in a first gen? Is the stereo size a standard double din? I would think that running the steering wheel controls into some sort or center console arm rest wouldn't be too hard either, just run the wires directly to a connector that is plugged into the rear of the HU. Thoughts? Comments?

BTW, excellent thread full of information!

Do I think it is technically possible? Yes. Would it be a major pain in the ass? Yes.

Thank you for the info, works like a charm, I got lights & left and right to work today. I still cannot get the back up camera to work. I will have to dig into that issue another time. Nothing like taking out my HU for the 100th time...

Hi guys. Newbie with a question... I have a '14 with NO steering wheel controls, but the HU has voice recognition set up. What are the odds its already wired up for the new controls? Or is there way to tell with the least chance of me breaking something?

If you look at my post on page 18 it shows pictures of the steering coloum shroud off. From there you will be able to see the s8 plug. If it has similar amount of wires as he one I posted you have a good chance

Grr. . fat fingers hit the enter button. Once you determine if you are wired to the steering wheel next the airbag as to come off and check if you have the right clockspring/spiral cable.

I'm pretty sure you need the clock spring then the new controls and it should work

Ok. Removing shroud not a problem, finding s8 should be easy (if not, come take my tools from me) Similar amount of wires, looks like 6 before - 8 after mod?

Alright, clock spring/spiral cable between steering wheel and column, right? What determines the wrong or right one?

Thanks for the help guys. Not even close to pre-wired. Just 1 wire. HU may not even be compatible. Only had the truck, not ready to tear into it that far yet. Thanks again.

Me again. Reconsidering this job. Sorry being stupid, but I would greatly appreciate your guidance. From what I think I've figured out, clock spring/spiral cable is one unit (or 2 part sold separately?) that mounts behind steering wheel with the sockets on top front with air bag plugs and steering wheel controls, and bottom for the output of same connections.? Right now I only have 1 green wire coming out of s8. If I'm understanding you guys, gonna need CS/S cable and a new s8 harness from wheel to HU.?

I know the clock spring comes in 2 different varieties on the Tacoma. There is the cheaper one, which you have, and the more expensive one. The difference between the two is the amount of wires that run within the clock spring from one connector to the other.

I can say for sure your radio is set up for voice controls, steering wheel controls etc. I believe you would need to buy the upgraded clock spring as well as the steering wheel controls. Without looking at your wiring diagram I can't say for sure how you are wired from the steering column to the radio.

Pulled from earlier in the thread...

A note on the spiral cable assembly. this is the black plastic circular housing that you see beneath the airbag. It allows for connection between z1 and s8. There is a flat ribbon cable in that housing that winds and unwinds like a clock spring as the steering wheel is turned. There only 2 flavors - a "7-way", ie, 7-conductor, for trucks NOT equipped with steering wheel controls. And a "16-way", ie 16-conductor for trucks equipped with steering wheel controls. If your truck was NOT equipped with steering wheel controls from the factory, the spiral cable assembly would need to be replaced (in addition to acquiring the steering wheel controls). The spiral cable assembly is not difficult to replace. There is another thread on that. Someone in this thread or another asked about trucks WITHOUT factory steering wheel controls.

Not sure how to get you a wiring diagram.... I could remove the shroud and take a picture of whats there if that would help. Or would I need to take the air bag off too?

Got the correct 2014 plug plugged it into the radio checked all my connections and nothing. Everything works fine on the 2014 unit & controls, I just cannot get the backup camera to work. The original kit was from checkermod1(Ebay) and worked perfect on the 2013 radio. Can anyone that has the camera working tell me if my wiring is correct? I am not sure if the red wire is required any longer and if my pins are in the correct position?

I have read most but not all of this thread in hopes of finding answers to a couple of my questions. I have a 2014 and recently purchased the Nav unit from FLTrucks. I have not yet installed it but have the following questions. Given that my truck did not come with the Nav unit (Entune Plus) will the 28 pin connecter still have the speed sensor hooked up? And I understand that the shark fin is for both GPS and Sat Radio. Even thought my truck did not come with Nav should I expect to find an unused GPS connection hanging behind the radio ready to plug into the new Nav unit or will I have to use the antenna FLTrucks sent me?
