Redington makes a good starter kit that will still be a fun rod even as a pro

    ^ This.

Also, a good place to start is in the 8' rod length. That seems to be the easiest for people to learn on.

Orvis also has good starter packages, good equipment, liftime warranty, fair price.

Try Cabelas as well. You can get Reddington there, or go with one of their in house packages.

I love orvis stuff. I have two orvis reels and I like them Better than my dads Abel reel. If you think you'll get into it invest in an orvis for sure

My favorite setup is a 7' 4wt Helios ion cork and ring reel seat with the older style BLA II with a DT line.

Most of my rods/reels are Orvis

I like the vintage clearwater. I was going to try to get one of the new CFO's, now made by Able, but they are $$$$

I honestly don't find my dads Abel that much smoother than my new clear water. Its not a larg arbor and it's crazy flashy. I'm not impressed by it performance wise but it's so sexy. When you take it out of its container everyone around stops. The birds stop chirping and the air pressure changes. It's ungodly beautiful.

Probably just a tad less than half tread. The issue is all the sipe grooves have worn off and they suck in heavy rain. I'm driving to Florida next month with the family & it rains every day down there.

HAHA. Yeah they are pretty. I tried to win one of those Grateful Dead, Steal Your Face reels from the Flyfisherman magazine.

My dads is gold with cherry wood reel handle and super gloss black screws and the teal line with orange backing makes it inappropriate
