I disagree. I believe it's because they don't really give a rat's ass about Shade Tree Bob who changes his own oil. And if Shade Tree Bob complains loud enough they can just drop the price for Shade Tree Bob "this one time". What they do care about is Super Busy Super Mom who drops off her super mini van for an oil change. They can charge her and all her super mini van driving girlfriends for that drain plug gasket that MUST be changed EVERY oil change. That shit adds up real fast.

Try REQUIRED maintenance for a bmw. Don't buy it, lose your warranty. How bout a $10k tune up (exaggeration of course)for a Lamborghini.

^Changing 12 spark plugs can be a pain. Hell, with Audi design influence now, you probably have to disassemble half the car to get at them.

Audi has been known to put the timing chain on the firewall end of the engine.

The only good deals available from dealers around here are the he oil filters. They usually charge $3.50 to $3.90 each.

I've never changed one of those metal washer/gaskets on plugs and they haven't leaked. Am I just lucky?

Most parts at a dealership are from the auto parts store lol. I work at a dealership but honestly I wouldn't buy anything through them unless it was a specific part that I needed badly.

I always buy my filters at toyota. I think i pay a little under $5 which in my opinion is very reasonable seeing how I'm getting a quality oem filter and walmart sells a fram filter for like $6. They always ask if i would like a new washer for free and i usually say no and just reuse the old one. As stated they don't leak unless very damaged. I always have good luck with my toyota dealership and i feel they are very well priced. I purchased my water pump, belts and thermostat there as well and got just as good of a deal as i found on the internet.

I rarely need to replace parts on my truck, but when i do …. I prefer OEM :D

Every dealer I have ever been to has Always given the plug gasket away FREE with a filter purchase. Two dollars plus is a fucking I don't care how much you say it isn't. I'm usually the first one to defend a dealer. This however has no defense. No not to just fuck him. To fuck everybody that buys one.

Timing chain at the firewall? That's just rude.

I ain't got no problem with dealership prices. If I want the OEM part, I'll pay the extra for it. After whatever haggle I can manage, of course.

ya my dealer in north Carolina did that for me as well. When I moved to Va the first time I bought a filter I asked the guy if he could throw a washer in and he said sure but it won't be free.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I won't have to buy a filter for a decade now.

I have a new dealership 4 miles away. They charge full price no matter what. Go through Camelback Toyota. Almost half price on a lot of items, free shipping on certain items (?) They beat the local dealer buy $150 on a stater, a STARTER, $150 cheaper. Now tell me that different dealership's don't charge more for the same thing. RIGHT.

That can't be right, I change my oil at least 5 times a year...
