If you bought larger wire, you will need a larger tip.

Also, have a look at this for some help observing the puddle. Also, this page has a bunch of MIG welding videos too. Both are from Welding Tips & Tricks.

A guy on craigslist is selling a powermax 30 he originally was going to take $700 for it and I was going to check it out tonight. he texted me today that it wasn't turning on, later he said the switch was bad and was able to jump it, but the fan wouldn't turn on. Anyone have any thoughts? he wants $250 for it now, worth it?

    Hers the pic

I'd pass. It's beat to crap and the cord/strain relief is half pulled out of the case.

Probably needs more than a switch.

Yeah that's what I was figuring, I was thinking he might have pulled the chords when it wouldn't work and just didn't put them back in.

Are the leads on hypertherms removable? On the millers I've used they aren't.

I dont think they are on the 30 since hand torch is the only option. On the PM45 and larger there are machine and hand torches available and quick interchangeable on demand.

I don't think so. At least it doesn't look like it. My Thermal Dynamics one is and it was kinda nice when they warrantied the torch. Got a brand new better one.

Yeah it doesn't look like it's removable, the power cord does though.

And so the search continues, People usually want almost new $ for used welders and plasma cutters, I've been watching c list for awhile now and hardly ever see anything. I've been contemplating those Chinese cut50s, I've seen decent reviews on them, I would love miller or hypertherm but just don't got the $.

The power cord has a giant plastic strain relief. I don't think it's removable either.

Looks like there are threads and has hex fittings.

Yeah. The threads are for the nut that holds the strain relief to the cabinet and the hex part is what clamps the cable to the strain relief.

Which means it can be taken off. I know it's not a plug, but doesn't look broken. I'm not getting anyway don't feel like a $250 paper weight:eek:

    Just keep the faith..

I found my barely used Hypertherm Powermax 600 with about $250 of consumables for $800 on CL

Guy originally wanted $1400, I sent him an email explaining that his asking price was near new price; made my offer. Week later he accepted it..

Oh. In that case, you can remove the cord and the torch. I thought you were asking about quick disconnects.

Doubt I'll find a deal like that, I check just about everyday, hardly anything available, and when there is they seem to sell pretty quick, I just really don't want one of the chinese units and it's annoying having to borrow one from work every weekend.

I was about the lead but not the cord, I don't think I've ever seen one on a welder/plasma. I thought the lead might be, similar to welding machines. Guess I wasn't clear, why couldn't you read my mind! :p
