First gens done have the space there and it actually causes less air to go in the cabin for the passenger

That's how mine was when I bought it, and it worked fine except for the fact that it was loud as hell when driving around.

The intake is in the passenger wheel well, under a cover and pointed at the passenger side of the truck, not the rear of the truck. Wind force does not pull away from the stock intake when driving. With the snorkel, it does (if turned backwords), though it is not a huge difference, I feel that it robs engine performance.

I suppose I will mount the antennae back by the tailgate, my cb should be here in a week or so, to be mounted in the old reliable ash tray location. Any specs on this install? Thanks for the info!! :oldglory:

While the design IDEA is sound, I have a problem with the air intake being at the location under the cowl. Why? Because when/if you do get into a deeper than expected area, the water can rush up the hood, and roll right into the fresh air intake area of the cowl and get sucked right into the intake. When you have a truck that you wheel, and you can/may run into a deep water area, the higher the intake, the better.

Dave, your truck was different. Your intake went through the firewall and into the cabin. The one he was talking about actually went to the cowl under the windshield, where the wipers are.

According to ARB, their snorkel design is just as capable with the intake turned away from the front. They state that intake to your engine is not affected at all if it is turned backwards. It just looks funny. lol.

Of course, but the idea is the cowl is a good deal higher than the fender. I see it as a good middle ground between stock and snorkel. And its stealthy and cheap

Plus you can tell if water is running up your hood and shutdown the engine if you had to. It would still suck to be that deep and not running, but it would be better than wondering if the water was high enough on the fender well to get in the intake and unknowingly destroy the motor.

I agree it would be better than stock..

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree that the cowling is probably better than stock. My point was a snorkel is way better than a cowl intake, which is what some people have been doing instead of a snorkel, thinking it was better. I can't remember the thread I read where the guy was insisting that a cowl intake was better than a snorkel for water fording.

Snorkel.... Allows clean air and repels water at deep crossing. Problem solved. Allows clean air in, deep water crossings out when sealed correctly. If you are in water 3/4 way up your Windows anyways.... I'm sure you are to deep and will short the electronic shit out before sucking water in. I like mine, looks good and functions how it is supposed to.

Sounds like you have it mostly figured out, nice! I believe I have a pic of my CB installed in that same location in my build thread, but I'm not 100% sure.

Running 35's means that I need the performance more than most! lol

    MY LOGIC IS UNDENIABLE!

    It's like physics and shit.

.......And apparently my hubs are toast, my nice optima yellow top is a paper weight, and my compressor is locked up.

So I'll be down for a while.

Damn Dave, shoulda stuck with 33's and open/open. Jk. That does suck though. What compressor? Air for the lockers? Psh, lockers are overrated. Fix hubs, put yellow top in, and ride! I'll pull you out... Or up a hill.

I should have bought a tacoma that wasn't beat to hell to begin with lol

I'll get it fixed though, but I refuse to wheel my truck that has ARB air lockers and not be able to use them :p

That's a lot of height. How much body lift is that?

No body lift, SAS, and its only 23" frame to ground.. Id say its around 5-6" lift over stock.. so similar to the height of a drop bracket but at the same time it doesn't seemed to have changed a lot in height from what I can tell by getting in, its just a small hop up now :D

Just a tad, ready for a trip back now but to somewhere like morris mnt
Well after I get a feel for it all over again

He HAS a Yellow Top Optima. I advise against those for primary battery though. The Red Top is designed for repetitive use as a primary battery. Yellow Tops are primarily for long current draw, and continuous drain/recharge (winch battery)
