I changed my spark plugs and I was surprised to get 23.5mpg.. 300 miles later, dropped to 20mpg.. Same driving style..

Basically what I did is a deck plate mod on a 2nd Gen. It is a 3" deck plate mounted on the air box wall facing the exhaust manifold. If I had it to do again, I would go with 2" to avoid some trimming.
I use a cutoff stadium cup to block the cold air side in the winter.

I just bought a 2003 V6 4x4 tacoma extended cab with 33's and at 55 mph it's running at 2000 rpm, at 65mph it's at 2500 Rpm's both while in 5th gear. Just wondering if anyone knows if that's normal?

Mine had 265's and did 2000 at 65, so I would think with 33's that would be right.

Free flowing air filters don't help mpg, K&N or otherwise, and neither does removing the secondary filter

So, I went ahead and bought an AFE filter, then decided to check my own. They already had a K&N Filter in there, with the secondary already moved. Doh. On the bright side, I can just wash the AFE filter instead of having to clean and re-oil the K&N. I guess I'll just keep it around just incase.

Moral of that story? Check first if you've bought a used one, before you spend the $62 on something that flows just as good. :D

Because the very second post on this thread indicated changing to an AFE filter and removing the charcoal filter might help with MPG. I was just stating to check before you buy because My charcoal secondary had already been removed, and had a K&N, but I'll switch to the AFE anyway since it's washable.

THAT is why I posted it here.

That's why I ;)'d but air filter doesn't do anything for MPG. People persist on wanting it to help mpg but there is only solid evidence that air filter can not improve MPG.

    Ah! context means everything, lol.

I didn't get it for the MPG I actually got it because more air can't hurt, and paper filters suck - and people were saying the AFE's were good so I got it, without the expectation of any sort of mpg gain... but it was mentioned, so I posted what i posted :)

I actually read the entire thing you rude motherfucker, I know it doesn't help MPG, I was just relaying my experience with replacing the filter without first checking what filter you actually have (which obviously wasn't helping MPG), if anything I'm reinforcing the fact that a free flowing air filter does not help mpg, but a restrictive one certainly can hurt.

Excuse me for thinking I could post something of this nature on a board with such hostility. I certainly don't remember anyone jumping all over the ass of the person who posted about it in the first place, pointing me to a good quality air filter.

I just don't like having my ass jumped all over for something so benign, and being called a "motherfucker"
