    now thats hilarious
it doesent matter, it would be a shitty idea to try to tow the tacoma (when finished) on a trailer. Just not enough power period.

looks like your rack bushing needs replaced too? :)

now I'm not suggesting this but here you go:

    http://motivelocks.tripod.com/warning-page-fd-n-t.html

and they also sell a lock:

    http://motivelocks.tripod.com/msts-toyota-tacoma-inst.html

when Toyota replaced my spare tire carrier/plate under TSB they used the standard one. apparently the original dealer I bought my truck from had used the lock/key cylinder. So I do have a barrel key sitting in my truck that's useless :(

Did plugs (wires are only from last year) and cleaned the intake system over the weekend as a recent leaky exhaust replacement and P0420 code had fouled everything heavily from running rich for so long (and the last plugs were changed only 10k miles ago and were filthy). Used the MAF cleaner, wiped out all the dust, took the throttle body completely off and cleaned all points thoroughly. However, I could not locate the IACV(idle air control valve) which i have a new gasket for. I disassembled the two sides of the TB, the one side just had the empty chamber where those little holes collect black dust, andthe other side was just gears and springs inside... so where is the IACV?

On reassembly I cleaned up and antiseized some of the rusty bolts going back in, hand tightened the loose head bolts while it was apart, put fresh dielectric grease on all the electrical harnesses, cleaned up corrosion and put battery terminal protection spray on, but looks like i need hoses soon as some are starting to crack at the tips.

Had some carnage in the process, the bolt securing a coil pack broke in half, so improvised with what was on hand which worked great, same thread size just needed a washer to make it the correct length. Also, the screws attaching the throttle line to the body were stripping out so I picked up some nice replacements at the hardware store. The philps screws on the throttle body were also stripping so I had to dremel them to accept a flathead (much easier).

At 186K miles now, so its about time for timing belt, water pump, tensioners and pulleys soon, that will be an expensive bill, but the work I did this time only cost the $12 for plugs and $4 for bolts plus the lubes, cleaners and supplies I had on hand, so it worked out pretty well.

She fired right up no sputtering or rough idle really. Took a test drive and it felt great, real smooth running, no CEL, i'm a happy camper and hoping my MPG's come back now that its all taken care of.
