Has anyone torn apart 3.0 swayaways? I'm trying to index the top cap and have e-mailed them a couple of times and it's been hard to get an answer out of them. The tubes hit my frame so I need to pull the top cap off and machine it down a bit so it rotates more until my tubes clear.

thats a lot of leverage at the front down tubes. reason you're not landing them on top of the frame ?

Just a question. Why didn't you land the tubes on top of the frame, rather than the little stub tubes?

I'll brace them as much as I can, the only reason I didn't put them on top of the frame, is because the Toyota IFS steering box sits on top.

Some more pics for a clearer idea of where it's going -

also, in the 2nd pic i can see at the floor boards on the passenger ( as well as the driver side) you have your A pillar tube coming down off the frame a bit as well. box the shit out of these areas. a hard hit at the right angle, could sheer that tube off the frame.

^^^^ yeah he makes a good point. It will make a stronger platform. If it isn't in the way of the wheel well.

It's already a tight fit, but yeah, I could probably cut off the stub tubes and build some mounts. Any reason I couldn't just gusset/reinforce the shit out of the stub tubes?

And this is basically what I had in mind -

Red is shock mounts, plus removable crossmember. Dark red is the option #2 for crossmember location.

Blue is mounting location for the winch (basically mounted upside-down to double as a suck down winch), made with plate or tube... I don't know yet.

Green is welded in bracing. Radiator fans would be located on either side of the X.

I think I used 3/16". The reason I went a little thicker than stock is I wanted the plate to hold the cams, so I wanted them to be similar thickness

First time in this thread hoping for some simple answers. I'm thinking about swapping to a solid axle in my 02 tacoma. Bone stock ifs 2.7 with a five speed. I wanted to do as much research as i could but have been given a chance at what i think will suit my needs. A buddy has a 2000 cherokee he's giving to anyone willing to take it off his yard. I want to know if this is something i could harvest an axle from. I come up with a dana 30 as the stock axle and i don't intend to rock crawl with mine. I want to just use it for what i currently do with it. Daily driver. 50 miles round trip to work and i am a logger so getting into the woods is a must. My stock setup get's me more places than most fullsizes but i am starting to have to put money into my front end and i'm thinking i'm just going to swap in something easier to work on and repair for cheaper. This truck will be mine till it's death at the scrapyard so i want to build a nice axle. Don't need 60s but i know a lot of guys do 44s. Is the 30 that much weaker? Like i said i'm getting it for free and it's still a long ways off till i do this i just had this fall into my lap.

There is a whole solid axle section that deals with this more often

im responding to the part in bold.

if your not planning on rock crawling, you dont need a solid axle. just DD and work? you dont want to be bouncing all over the place like a solid axle will do. not nearly the ride comfort.
and because your starting to have to put money in your front end? dude a solid axle swap will cost so much money and take a 100 hours to do it.
i think you are going the wrong direction with this.
