Thoughts About Floor Pans... Possible?

So one of the things that I have always questioned Toyota's decision about is the depth of the floor pans on the 1st Gens. They are a bit too high for a 6''+ American to be completely comfortable! I have been kicking around the idea for a couple years of lowering the floor pans. Just from where they level out after the firewall to right before the mounts for the seats. I know there are a couple things to relocate under those areas, but by lowering them about 2'' I would have so much more room to sprawl out. Its a double cab, but I don't think I would do the rear. I would use quality steel and brace it to eliminate any possible structural issues also.

Has anyone else thought about this or known anyone to do it?

Sounds like you need pedal extensions at 6"+. Just kidding, I'm only 5'9 so I never thought about your question. Don't think I ever read anything on that topic. I am sure someone has done that though. Hopefully someone that's not a smartass like me will reply. GL

I think it's more hassle than it's worth. I'm 6'1" and while I agree the floor is way too high for taller people, I think cutting them out and rewelding them a few inches down is a daunting task. for what? a little extra comfort? you're obviously already dealing with it.

change the seats so you sit at a different angle. easier fix.

I know what you are talking about I am 6' 4" it seems my feet lay strait out I couldn't imagine driving a single cab. But I think that would be a whole bunch of work and the frame out get in the way because it runs just below the foot well.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Yeah, it isn't anything that's inhibiting my comfort too much, so I'm not worried about it. It was the same in my '87 Hilux, so I have dealt with it for 18 years. I was most interested to see if anyone had done or seen it. Oh well, on to the next project!
