Regarding the whole issue with Blackfish being propaganda, there has been nothing presented by Sea World to contend the facts presented in the film. The only report I have read from Sea World is just a spin on the film, saying that it is not fair and doesn't present the facts right. Well, then why doesn't Sea World set the record straight and present their facts? Of course, nothing else has come out, just this statement. All it is, is saying that regardless of what was presented, the whales are happy to be confined and entertainment for the public.

So I read the article, but did not get a clear answer from what i saw... How do they know how old this whale really is? Or that it's really even the same whale that was seen back in the 1930's? Just wondering.

Dorsal fin and body markings are individual to each animal , that's how they track and record family trees and ages

Her age is an estimate extrapolated from data that has been gathered on J pod since 1970 as well as observational accounts of the pod from earlier years , she is estimated to have been born in 1911

I could have put that entire show on mute, and still hate seaworld.
Those whale trainers were using their own words in that movie, and hearing the B.S. coming out of their mouths was sure orchestrated to make seaworld look bad.
Are you affiliated with seaworld or places like seaworld?

You obviously didn't research anything about Orcas if you think the " pretty big bathtubs " are adequate or humane to keep them in

I think that if an animal is bred in captivity, they don't know what it's like in the wild, nor will they know how to miss it. It's be like dropping a human in the middle of the jungle. It's out of the environment that it's used to

No , it would be like dropping a human into a room with 6 other humans it has never met and never letting it leave the room until it dies

Not to mention that Tiliicum , the whale followed in Blackfish was captured in the wild

What exactly are the " very few things that were actually true " in the film ?

I mean of course besides the lies about life expectancy , dorsal fin collapse , violence between whales and the cover ups of trainer incidents

Thats so ignorant and inconsiderate to another being of life.

Thats like breeding pigs in captivity and if they are given the opportunity to go b back into the wild, they'll be completely useless..

o.o I honestly think that even IF blackfish was made to piss people off, it doesn't stop the fact that SeaWorld is in fact, ABUSING animals. In no situation is it okay to take a 30ft+ sized intelligent animal and train it to do tricks and place it in an oversized swimming pool with a lid essentially for most of the day and tell me it's a good think because it's never been in the wild. Never heard of Instincts huh?

I swear people just run me up the wall..

When my friend told me to watch blackfish I did. I watched it with a very open and unbiased mind. I loaded it on my second monitor and every couple of minutes paused it, jumped over to firefox on my other monitor and fact checked what I was being told by this "documentary"

First off 90% of blackfish wasn't even about seaworld, it was about another park, one that isn't even in business anymore.

2nd. At least one of the "trainers" in the movie was an actress, and not the trainer herself. This likeness was used without her consent, and the views expressed were the opposite of what she says she believes.

3rd. The age of this whale is very debatable. 1970-1911 is a 60 year difference. Seaworld says 20's this group says 100+ so until they both present the FACTS leading to their numbers. There are "professionals" who have extrapolated the earth's age to be 6,000 years old because of personal beliefs, even though the facts don't support this. Remember that reporters would pick the bigger number to make a headline to draw in readers to increase their profit margin even if they knew it to be false.

I'm not going to tell you what to believe with Seaworld or animal rights. I'm just saying make up your mind after you review ALL the facts. Me personally, I am against circuses because they exploit animals for pure profit. There is no educating, no helping of wild animals, and they are transported constantly in trains and trucks. Just pure exploitation for pure profit. Seaworld draws you in with the same tactics of a circus, but once you get there helps educate the public on the animals they're viewing. They take large portions of the profits they're making and use it to help conserve wildlife habitats and rescue and rehabilitate thousands of animals every year. Without the parks and the shows within it Seaworld would not have the capital to achieve this.

In the end don't take my word for it. Spend 60 seconds to fact check the hour and a half movie you sat through and you'll find articles like these.

    http://www.advancedaquarist.com/blo...ler-whale-trainer-responds-to-movie-blackfish

    http://micechat.com/54370-blackfish-backlash/

And thats just the tip of a very large iceberg.

Im aware that most of the documentary wasn't about seaworld but Sealand(i think)? The thing is that Seaworld bought the whale that killed it's trainer knowing full well they were obtaining a whale that has killed it's trainer in the previous location, thats just stupid.

Also, you say that you are against circuses but you'll go to a circus that gives you some educational facts about the animals that they are in fact abusing(SeaWorld). That logic doesn't make much sense to me.

If Orcas only live 20 years , how does that explain the whales that are still alive that were captured in 1969 and the early 1970's ?

    http://www.orcahome.de/orcastat.htm

Not sure how you figure " 90% of Blackfish is not about Seaworld " , when in fact most of the the film deals with the time that Tillicum was at a Seaworld park . Sealand of the Pacific did originally own Tillicum , where the original trainer death occured , then the whale was sold to Seaworld .

Granny's ( J2 ) age is an extrapolated estimate using factors such as her size , and age of her offspring as well as her dorsal and body markings that appear in photos from the 30's and 40's .

As to your point that " professionals " have estimated the age of the Earth at 6000 years old , that's a religious belief , not scientific study and has zero bearing on this , not sure why you even bothered going there

some commentary regarding the " Blackfish backlash "
