^^^This is stupid! It's more like saying when Ariel Castro held Amanda Berry against her will, and had a daughter in captivity, she should have just got use to it?

I watched one from about 50 feet away, snatch a seagull off the surface in Kodiak harbor one day and eat it. Awesome creatures!

Your use of double-quotes there is corrrect.

Good thread and good heads-up about this movie. I had never heard of it until now, but will give it a look-see. Regardless of any perceived distortions or concrete realities, locking these beasts in a turd tank and making them perform tricks for our amusement is evil.

Further to the retarded " pretty big bathtubs " comment

Granny’s healthy appearance may come from feasting on the recent big chinook runs near the Columbia River.

But she’s also been doing a lot of travelling.

Michael Harris, executive director of Pacific Whale Watch Association, which has members in both the U.S. and Canada, said J-Pod was spotted off the Russian River in Northern California just over a week ago.

“The thing I found really, really interesting is that she’s in the shape to travel, to make the trek she just did with J-Pod,” said Harris. “That’s 800 miles in not even eight days. It’s amazing.”

You have got to be kidding me...

With or without the movie, SeaWorld is not giving them the stimulation they would get in the wild. You can't deny that.

The Cove was meant to outrage the viewer about the slaughter of dolphins , does that make the subject matter void ?

I generally dont care about the humanity of it unless were going to relate it to all animals in captivity. Such as zoo's, domestic animals, live stock, fish, reptiles, birds, rodents, bugs, ect.
If its not right to keep one then it isn't right for any.

Until then its just another bullshit movie like the ones I listed above.

Yeah its a bathtub but not a sensory deprivation tank.

You admit that their tanks are bathtubs but you don't think that deprives them of sensory stimulus

So it's about money? Not the animal cruelty. Fyi I love going to sea world to watch the fish jump. Highly entertainingly and delightful.

Pretty much. Life is life right? Unless its about the money....

Oz I encourage you to learn about the somato sensory system and nervous system.

I don't at all. I think zoo's are a great way for people to see these animals. Seaworld essentially is a zoo.

My argument is that if one is against captivity on a certain animal then they ought to be against all captivity. I don't understand the selective respect towards the freedom of one animal vs another.

I wonder when the arguers will ever realize that even if Blackfish is pumped up ( I think its embellished at some level), the basic lesson is still true and intact about the intelligence and value of these whales. Maybe we could be so lucky as these doubters could get abducted by martians and put in a 7'x7' room as the aliens tell them its such a large envoirement.

What if the number is only 70 years?.... it would still be the same when you take you grandkids to see the orca and you have to learn (in 40 years from now) that they die in 20 years in a park, but live to 75-105 on their own in the wild. Explain to your kids how you chose to ignore this for most of your life.

Sensory deprivation. They call out for dozens of miles, and in the right spots over 100mi. They cant hear or call out in a bath tub to the pods, they are social like we are, they want their pod. I listened to the orcas and dolphins from a sub for 4+ years and hearing them is one of the more enjoyable parts of a boring sonar watch.

I say leave it on the topic of a really old orca, or just go unsub for the rest of our sake.

Even the artical linked is suggesting boycotting seaworld until they release the whales. I guess the other animals arn't smart enough to warrant a pardon of captivity.

Read about the nervous system and somato sensory system and possible something about communication as you don't seem to understand the differences.

    Thanks for your service. :oldglory:

No need for you to assign what you want people to have as knowledge, or, do or don't know, then make bad claims of what they don't know. No need to define the differences in nervous systems and sensory organs etc... but i'm sure you want this as mixed up as you can ... perhaps as mixed up as Blackfish, hmmm.
