MSRP on mine was $34,418. I paid $32,748 + tax, title fees and a supercharger

I bought my Tacoma in April but I just checked the USAA buying service site for my truck with OEM roof rack and Predator step bars (remember, I negotiated the price without the roof rack or step bars). The following information is provided for your entertainment (prices below do not include tax, title, license and fees):

USAA reported MSRP: $34,538
USAA estimated dealer price: $30,784
Dealer 1 offer: $30,784
Dealer 2 offer: $31,184
Dealer 3 offer: $31,684

 

Damn, seems like the avg discount is around $750-$1000. My dealer would only budge $570 off the $25'165 MSRP on my '14, DC, PreRunner, with 2.7 motor, it's also white and it took 2-3 hours of haggling to get there. 4-Cyl engines are extremely difficult to find here in California right now, a lot of companies are buying them in bulk, and before they hit the lots because only Toyota & Nissan make a small truck with 4 cyl for business.

My dealer had the only 4 Cyl Tacoma, on the ground covering a 200 mile radius. I actually didn't want a PR or DC. Was trying to find a 5-lug, AC, white but they are impossible to locate or find. My salesperson said he could make a great deal on any "V6" I wanted, but they generally don't drop the prices on a 4 Cyl, as they typically have a line so to speak of people or companies WAITING to buy them. Our gas out here is crazy expensive right now (Over $4/ gal) this is why I got out of my '13, Ford Fx4, EcoBoost (11-12 mpg in town) and over $130 to fill up the 36 gal tank. I wasn't using it to tow anything, so eventhough it was a nice rig, leather, heated & cooled seats, Nav, sunroof, Max Tow pkg etc.... I was largely underutilizing it.

Zero regrets getting my 2.7, PreRunner, DC though. It's dog slow, but I'm saving a TON of money on fuel and cost of ownership .vs my old truck and my payment is more than 1/2 less, what my old truck was.

 

The dealer I bought my '14, DC, prerunner wanted to do $25,235 out the door, after a couple weeks of the truck sitting on the lot they called with $24,000. Pool runner is correct about it being difficult to find the 4cyl truck there were only 5 in my state! Also what is a 5-lug;a transmission?

 

5-lug refers to the number of lug nuts on the wheels. There are substantial differences to other parts as well but you can easily tell by the number of lug nuts...

 

Got out of my POS Chevy that left me stranded at only 5 years old and 60k miles



Blue Ribbon Metallic TRD Sport 4x4 with 6 speed manual, all weather floor mats, and Entune plus for $31,400 + title, license and Toyota's 100k/8yr warranty. Not the best deal but finding a manual transmission double cab in a color I liked was hard. It took the dealership a couple weeks to round one up since I specifically wanted the Sport in BRM or as a back up MGM. They went above and beyond and were really good to me and gave me low retail on my trade in.

 

First post, not officially a Tacoma owner yet.

I've been shopping around by phone and e-mail and my best offer so far is $29,000 + $420 admin fee and "not a penny more" on a '14 DCLB SR5 4x4 w/ Entune + and tow package in Magnetic Gray. Still being built and should be here by the end of the month-ish.
Any thoughts?

Invoice to mark up seems to be around $1700 without any dealer add ons. But dealers also pay below invoice. hope that helps as a starting point.

 

Keep in mind, Toyota isn't making nearly as many of these trucks as they did in 2008. As an example, back in '06 I bought a brand new '07 reg cab, base automatic for $15,500 (I also sold that truck three years later, with 50k miles for the same price I paid new) I got roughly $500 off the sticker on that truck, which wasn't that good, but still good in the end when considering the amazing re sale value of these trucks.

A new '14, base automatic is $20k today, and the only difference I can see between the two are the '14 has a different radio. Back in '06, every dealer had 15-20 base, plain white reg cabs in stock, now there are hardly any in stock (but that might be regional) My salesperson for my 2014, told me the govt is throttling how many Tacomas Toyota builds. Since Tacoma's get almost the worst mpg's and have the worst emissions .vs all the other vehicles the brand sells, the govt is also making them build and ship more fuel efficient cars to places like California, with more stringent emissions requirements.

This is why the supply is low, and the pricing is high right now. I would have been tempted to go out of state to find my truck and get a better deal, but here in California I would have paid a hefty tax to bring a truck back here, on top of time and gas.

2014 TRD Off Road, DCSB, Entune +, Magnetic Gray, 4x4, automatic. MSRP $33,655, paid $30,900, + tag and title, not including $1000 military rebate. The dealer tried to lowball me on my 02 TRD V6, xtra cab, manual, but I got them to match my Carmax appraisal which was $3000 more than the original offer.

Because everyone's tax, tittle and license will be different.

Depending on price, state, etc.....

 

The problem with including tax is it will not account for trade. The taxable amount is based on price - trade in. So if you have a substantial trade you will pay less in taxes. By giving what you paid before taxes it give an equal number for everyone. That's why. Also the tax rate is different in different parts of the country.

 

Because tax varies from location to location and is not even the same in all parts of the same state...
