Hi gang, well this is night #4 being evacuated. Hope they will let us go home tomorrow. At least I think we have a home to go back to (I think).

Me too. I think they are going to open up Twin Oaks soon. My apartment was still blocked off as of this afternoon. Its getting really old.

A huge thank you to all of those first responders who saved the apartment complex.

I am so confused as to why they have everyone still evacuated. I mean, I haven't driven over there but I have a pretty damn good view over here from Escondido and I don't see any sort of fire nonetheless smoke!

Where's your complex at? Southbound Twin Oaks is blocked to traffic last I heard, but foot traffic is allowed. My brother in law parked in the Ralphs center but was allowed to walk southbound on Twin Oaks to his condo. His truck and condo complex are still there, but the inside of the condo smells like smoke since 2 bathroom windows were left open. Towels and sunglasses were still left at the pool, which means the pool goers left in a hurry.

2003 cedar creek fire, this pic shows El Cajon
, looking southwest to north east, the trough of flames is Crest grade off Greenfield drive....

From the top of ridge , west bound , my house is about 2 miles away as the crow flies....

485,000 acres consumed & is still the largest wildfire in Californias recorded history as far as I know....

I live right by Cal State San Marcos and finally got to go home last night. Zero damage. It was tough roughing it at the girlfriends house and getting fed everyday by her Mom. I must have gained three pounds in three days. Haha

Glad to hear you both have homes to go back to! I evacuated my parents on Thursday night but the fire did not end up getting to or crossing del dios hwy so they got back into their house Friday night.

Matt (06HAOLE) think I may have seen your truck up on Camp Pend?! Horno or SOI?

Thanks Dave. We will head back in a couple hours. A lot of food to throw away sadly.

yeah been there and done that but after 4 days of being out of your place it will be great to sleep in your own bed!! Very sad for the people that lost their homes and all their stuff but at the end of the day it's just stuff and family and people are all that matter as you cant replace them. Going though something like this def makes you reevaluate what is important!

Home now. Fire came to edge of complex and university parking lot we are next to. No ash here. Winds were not blowing north.

    That's exactly why...

I was working in the restricted area yesterday and there are still firefighters working on the hot spots. It only takes a small amount of heat to have something flare up again. They are pretty meticulous about it because there was also a lot of dry brush and houses surrounding most of the hot spots.

I had a hotspot flare up about 1.5 weeks after the cedar fire blew thru back in '03. Right behind the house on the hillside. It wasn't going anywhere but still was a trip to see it go again. It was a burnt stump that smoldered and the wind flared it up again but there was nothing else around left to burn.

Uh ya, enuf to fill buckets and douce it out at 2 in the morning. Was pretty gun-shy at that point. All the blinds in the house were melted, eaves were toasted, lawn was burnt, trees were burnt toothpicks and Halloween pumpkins were liquid mush from smoke. Those were some crazy times
