You know what I find really funny? People are up in arms about a couple of handfuls of whales in captivity. More than 11,000 ELEVEN THOUSAND sharks are killed every HOUR. These sharks aren't killed mercifully either. They have their fins sliced off while still alive. They are then thrown back into the ocean while bleeding out, unable to swim, and slowly and painfully die. So a couple of whales are forced to do tricks and swim in a bathtub. At least their captivity has some benefits for their kind. In the end this is a very minor issue with so much other BS with much more significant impacts. But you know what they say, out of sight, out of mind.

How did you leap to the assuption that people aren't disgusted by shark finning ?

wow... Really No need to be an azz ,,, I said I misread your post. I am not wrong about the ORIGINS of man and dogs relationship.
here is what I was referring to. I know it is not in crayon but just do your best to read and comprehend.

Early wolves would, as scavengers, be attracted to human field kills and refuse left at human campsites.[21] Dr. Raymond Coppinger of Hampshire College (Massachusetts) argues[22] that those wolves that were more successful at interacting with humans would pass these traits on to their offspring, eventually creating wolves with a greater propensity to be domesticated. The "most social and least fearful" wolves were the ones who were kept around the human living areas, helping to breed those traits that are still recognized in dogs today.[19]
Coppinger believes that a behavioral characteristic called "flight distance" was crucial to the transformation from wild wolf to the ancestors of the modern dog. It represents how close an animal will allow humans (or anything else it perceives as dangerous) to get before it runs away. Animals with shorter flight distances will linger, and feed, when humans are close by; this behavioral trait would have been passed on to successive generations, and amplified, creating animals that are increasingly more comfortable around humans. "My argument is that what domesticated—or tame—means is to be able to eat in the presence of human beings. That is the thing that wild wolves can't do."[23]
Furthermore, selection for domesticity had the side effect of selecting genetically related physical characteristics, and behavior such as barking. Hypothetically, wolves separated into two populations–the village-oriented scavengers and the packs of hunters. The next steps have not been defined, but selective pressure must have been present to sustain the divergence of these populations

Further to your comment that you posted twice now about 90% of Blackfish " not even about Seaworld but a park that's now closed " , what are you talking about ?

When I responded that almost all of the film deals with Tillicum's time at Seaworld you told me to pause the film and research it , but as I said before , Tillicum was originally at Sealand of the Pacific in Victoria , coincidentally about 200' from where my Grandmother lived , at Sealand Tillicum killed the first trainer , Tillicum was sold to Seaworld and eventually Sealand of the Pacific closed but this takes up just a fraction of the beginning of the film .

I thought today that maybe you were referring to the death of the Spanish trainer at Loro Parque which is detailed in the film but that trainer was killed by a different Orca and that park is still open , so I'm really not sure what you are talking about

Didn't need Blackfish to figure this out. I don't like seeing wild animals in captivity.

I don't think we actually disagreed on anything other than what sensory deprivation is. I don't object to Seaworld or whatever. I object to the selective careing for which animal should be free based on preceived intelligence.

I thought oz started it here at the Seaworld in San Diego. The demo looks great. Its a giant you riding one of those whales or I guess the new name blackfish.

Funny that freaks assign black to "dangerous" things
Blackfish/blackgun. Next thing you know those whales are going to be called assault fish.

Then you object to all institutions that hold animals captive?

I know you are going to try to pivot me into some all or nothing argument that an ant farm , or hamster cage or poultry farm is the same as Seaworld .

Nope, I was just going to ask about the rationalization of your response.

But yeah keeping any animal for entertainment is wrong if the thought of keeping any one animal is wrong. Again I enjoy Sea World. In fact since we have been talking about it so much I'm going next weekend.
