Actually the mount sort of fits into the coil to keep it centered. So the coils can actually move.

So obviously i screwed this up pretty bad and am no expert. Would it be possible to instead of taking apart everything to turn the bracket right side up, remove the bottom of the strut, compress the spring(without removing the top three nuts) enough so that I can remove that stop ring and then take the mounting bracket off? Thanks!

no! You have to remove the coil. You will never be able to do it on the truck. And it will be VERY Dangerous!

Thanks all for the replies and especially Toku! I changed it out last night and just have to get the alignment now. I'm not really that mechanically inclined, but since joining the forum, I've learned alot (but still got a ways to go) from all the advice on the forum. Again, I appreciate the help!

I appreciate the things discussed here. I am in a similar situation. Firestone, with my lifetime allignment says that they cannot set the caster to its proper value. I think I will try a different firestone
