    Basic kit on a Tacoma -> Mini D2S 3.0 Stage III: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/complete-retrofit-kits/bi-xenon-mini-stage-3-kit-d2s.html.

    Of the options:

Projectors - O lens is round and X lens is square. No performance difference in the two. Square lens projectors can only be used with square shrouds, of which there are only a few. Both are optically clear and both install in the same fashion via the threaded shaft at the back: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/diy-installation-guides/mini-d2s-guide.html.

If you're using them in North America, you will choose LHD for Left Hand Drive traffic.

Bulbs - Obviously many different options. To keep the 25% off, you'll need to stick to the Morimoto 3Five bulbs. Color choices are easy:

    • 4300K - OEM color. Brightest of the three. Warm white / almost yellowish in color when new.
    • 5000K - Slightly dimmer and slightly bluer than 4300K. Fluorescent white in color.
    • 6000K - Slightly dimmer and bluer again than 5000K. Light blue in color.

Wire Harness - MotoControl H4 BiXenon for Tacomas.

Sealant - Visible here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/oci-butyl-rubber-glue.html. Used for sealant the housings back up.

Ballasts - For the 25% Group Buy discount, you need to stay with Morimoto brand again here. Of the two options:

    • 35w - OEM wattage for factory HIDs. More reliable and longer lasting than 50w.
    • 50w - Increased wattage for more light (about 25%), but shorter life (also about 25%).

Shrouds - This is entirely up to you. Zero function for the performance of the projectors and just a trim piece for a finished look. Expect at least a small amount of trimming / cutting with any shroud you choose. All of the options can be seen here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/components/shrouds.html.

Centric rings are not necessary nor included with the Mini D2S projectors and shrouds.

Halos - Accent lighting for the installation. Can be installed either inside the shroud to shine through the openings in the shrouds or on the face for direct visibility. More pictures / info can be seen here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-lighting/morimoto-xbaled-angel-eyes.html.

    Hope this helps clarify!

Excellent description and links to each section you went over, I remember first checking this out and thinking...dear god this web site has so many options and I have no idea what should go with what or if this affects that. Cleared that all up and moved this up on my to-do list. :)

    Primarily the lamp.

The D2S is an industry standard HID burner, used in many OEM applications.
It is one of only 4 or 5 bases manufactured by the OEM suppliers (Philips, Osram/Sylvania).

The H1 is rebased and is the same as the standard H1 halogen lamp.
All H1 lamps are either manufactured by a 3rd-party, or have been re-based by a 3rd party (such as Morimoto).

There is also a difference in how it mounts to the housing, as well as the reflector. Used to be the H1 could not handle the 55w ballast and the D2S could, but there have been a few reports of the D2S losing its plating, so the 55w is really only recommended now for the FXR.

Getting back into motorcycles and perhaps an aircooled VW. :)

Mainly bulb types as Rich mentioned. The Mini H1 is smaller and designed for more compact applications, whereas the Mini D2S is larger but does perform better--nearly as good as the FX-R, in fact.

Which would be better for a 2000 Tacoma?

Seeing that the total price difference is about $20 in cart, just want to see if it's worth it

It's honestly worth a solid $100 more, so $20 is a no-brainer in my eyes. I'd go Mini D2S all day long.
