    A job is a job.

But sometimes being overqualified is a BIG problem. Unless you are competing against idiots that the HR manager knows will not work out, he knows that as soon as something better comes along, you're gone.

So he's going to be looking at it from a perspective of "Can I keep this guy long enough for a promotional opportunity to come up, or is he going to become burned out working so far below his skills?"

Fortunately, in my case, my current boss persuaded my former boss that the case was the former... and after 2 years I moved up.
Former boss was so difficult to work with that it very nearly became the latter. The only thing getting me out of bed in the morning was the stability.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
They were horribly installed too. Watched him take 5x to close his for properly.

Let's say two people interview for a job. Each as the same degree, have done the same job but one has slightly more experience and made more in salary. Both would be qualified for the job but the most experienced won't necessarily get it based on your matrix. If the salaries were more equal and fit within the matrix, maybe.

You'd be better off just saying "I'm sorry. We are looking at other candidates" and leaving it at that.

    That's his point.

Two people that can both do the job, but the slightly more experience of one classifies him out of the matrix so he is passed over.

    What Rich said.

Also, if you are using your matrix to make those decisions, you're limiting the talent you can bring on board. By using my example, you automatically pass over someone you believe is over paid according to the matrix. You would better off using a salary range and having a salary discussion with the candidate you believe is the best fit for your job. Even if you cannot afford to offer that candidate a salary commensurate with their past salary history-you never know and if it doesn't work, you still have the other candidate in the wings :D

I've seen that quite a bit up here. The single wall beds on those older trucks was the weak point. But the rest of the truck just keeps going.
