No, its not, but to make the driving experience much better, I recommend , IMO getting a TRD quick shifter/shift knob as well as a traction bar.

There is simply no practical reason to buy the manual - Believe me I tried REALLY hard to justify ordering my DCSB TX pro with a 6spd - it would have been a hell of a unique truck - There was some weirdness for sure with the ordering of a 6speed - like apparently you can't combine a long bed and a 6spd, and apparenty you can't combine nav and a 6spd...

I am a manual driver, and in my sports cars, I won't have autos - but this isn't a sports car the auto makes more sense for 4 wheeling, it makes more sense for commuting and makes more sense resell.

To me the selling point on the manual is singular - The ONLY reason the manual is a good option is if *YOU* as a driver want it, and I applaud toyota for continuing to offer one.

Again don't misunderstand me, I was a supra guy for a REALLY long time and loved my 6spd - I wouldn't have traded it for an Auto no matter how fast they were, but in a vehicle like the Taco the reasons for having an auto far outweighed my desire to have a 6spd.

    just my .02

You can't get a 6 spd long bed double cab, but you can get a 6 spd short bed double cab with nav, it's sitting in my driveway.

I'm very curious to see how I do on mileage. First tank was 17.8 mpg but I can't get used to that extra 6th gear. I think once I do I'll top 20. My Scion xA manual is only supposed to get 36 mpg as a 5 spd but I've been pulling 42 mpg since I drove it off the lot.

Personally, I think a manual is better for resale. Few and far between...

That just simply isn't true - The exception is if you can line up your own buyer who again WANTS a 6spd - it's a speciality request and MOST drivers these days don't know how to drive a manual anymore... So yes if you are selling to another TW member who wants a 6spd, you might be able to get a premium for it, but on trade in value alone you're gonna get dinged for having a 6spd

Again don't get me wrong, I LOVE manual transmissions but as much as I wanted to get one for this truck, logic won me over, and sitting in traffic with a manual is just horrendously sucky.

The fact that the auto is capable of more towing, better mpg, better gearing, is quicker to 60, and seems to be far less prone to issue

(which by the way is not a unique thing for toyota... their manual transmissions going back to the 80s have been a bit flaky, even the venerable v160/161 Getrag boxes had TOB issues because toyota had a crappy design)

The bottom line for the OP is buy a manual but only buy it if you WANT it, there is no logical reason to buy one for this truck - You can still get a 6 speed in a dodge diesel truck too, one of the last heavy duty trucks still offering a manual gear box, but just like the tacoma it's capability is far less than the auto trans on that truck... in the old 5.9L days the 6spd was the tits, was capable of mid 20s MPG, towed more, and other than clutch being a maintenance item was more reliable - in 2006 the auto trans was capable of equal or better MPG, could tow 1100lb more, and required nearly no service interval...

More power to you manual guys, I should be ashamed for not getting one, but long term viability and knowing I was going to beat the hell out of it scared me away from it on this truck (and actually I'm not even sure I could order a baja with a 6spd... if someone has one I'd be curious to know!) - This also has become my daily vehicle, not just a toy like the supra - so having to put up with a 6spd in houston traffic would suck my taint....

So I stand corrected, according to the toyota builder you cannot get JBL premium with a 6spd, but you can get nav/entune with a 6spd - and again because it does not list the BX/BY packages I have no way of knowing if I could have gotten a TXproBAJA in a 6spd

However since I ordered JBL and that was mandatory for me, 6spd wouldn't have been an option and that's what I'm talking about - There seem to be some finicky rules about what you can pair with the 6spd, also seems to be limited color choices - silver, black, grey, red - if you want pyrite or spruce or white, or whatever - 6spd is a non option... again that logic makes no sense to me...

Best I can figure is it seems like all 6speeds might be built out of a specific plant (san antonio possibly rather than the mexico plant?) so maybe that plant is only tooled for those specific configurations...

Plenty of people still like manuals though, and there is less of them on the market, so it shouldn't be hard to sell for a KBB value. I agree on trade-in though. Manuals are cheaper from the factor so a stealership will knock you with everything they can.

I like my 6. Hasn't always been the case but i'm enjoying it more and more as time goes on. I've got 37k on it now. It likes RL MT-90, good oil for the ra60 trans.
