DOM is about 4-5 bucks a foot depending on your supplier.

Just curious but what's so bad about having a bumper made from HREW/mild steel? Just that HREW will bend easier? And isn't DOM the same as HREW except it doesn't have a seam?

Nah. When I bought mine I did that. Unless they changed the law since 2010.

You could sell each other your trucks for a really good deal, you would still pay some tax though depending on how good the deal is. I guess thats not much different than just gifting them though.

I think it would be best to not consider it a trade, but just to gift each other the vehicles. In CA it doesnt seem there would be any tax on it, but in AZ there would not be an exemption. Also when you go to register the new vehicle in CA they would have to "reestablish" the vehicle value, so Im not sure how that would work. So your best option could be for him to gift you his truck then you sell him yours at a really low price, I dont know how AZ would determine the value of your truck (for him to pay tax on) if you were to gift it to him. Oh ok. I was wondering why Nick put the seams on the inside when he built mine.

As far as the debate between HREW and DOM, there's no doubt that DOM is stronger but if you are getting towards the point where either one will bend for example a crash or a hard hit, you'll most likely have to replace the bumper either way but I guess DOM will have more protection.
