I have to say I'd rather see a tree even after a fire left alone. Those painted trees are :puke:

I assume your speaking to the painted trees? If so, they were painted 50+ years ago by Desert Steve, when he owned the land. It's now public land and the trees are historical. See quote and link below.

This is our most recent camping trip. Due to the camp stove being out of fuel because I was an idiot and didn't check, we ended up cooking everything over the fire in cast iron. It all turned out great and I filled the camp stove for the beach trip this weekend! Since we were camping in a site with power, I did not bother taking the lanterns or I would have stolen fuel from them.

Camping at Lincoln Rock (WA) State Park this past weekend. This is a favorite State Park of mine - clean, lots to do, well maintained - and I was there several times last year and will be more this year. As you can see, also, I had a camping buddy (Yellow Bellied Marmot according to the Ranger) who was my wake up call both mornings. I also managed to get out to Chelan Butte (a mild road to most but exciting for me) and took a gorgeous drive along the Pine Canyon to Waterville, WA. Posted more photos on Flickr (below) and found some really nice places. Waterville really is the "town that time forgot."

    Enjoy & happy wheeling!!

    :)

Man, all these pics are making me extremely jealous. Moving from Florida to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia has been brutal! I went from all kinds of remote locations to camp to nothing but campgrounds! Awesome thread!

LOL at the "primitive road" pic in your gallery....that looks to be in better shape than 75% of the highways in MT!!

So my original camping plans for this coming weekend fell through... found a backup place to go. I'll be going with a group so it should be a fun time. Pics will be sure to follow.

Yup. Here's the celestial list for the rest of the month. I converted all times to EST.

5/22 Neptune is 5 degrees south of the Moon at 00:00; the Curtiss Cross, an X-shaped illumination effect located between the craters Parry and Gambart, is predicted to begin at 17:57
5/24 A possible new meteor shower associated with Comet 209P/LINEAR peaks at 3:00; Uranus is 1.9 degrees south of the Moon at 16:00
5/25 Mercury is at greatest eastern elongation (23 degrees) at 7:00; Venus is 2 degrees south of the Moon at 12:00
5/27 A double Galilean satellite shadow transit begins at 10:34
5/28 New Moon (lunation 1131) occurs at 14:40
5/31 Mercury is 6 degrees north of the Moon at 12:00; asteroid 15 Eunomia (magnitude 9.5) is at opposition at 14:00

Yep. You just need two bars to clamp around that can handle the weight of the tent + occupants. I had mine on top of a shell, but basically any bars that are strong enough would suffice.

Something to keep in mind, my tent was a small Airland model and it was just shy of 7' long overall. If you're looking to mount above the bed, but behind the cab on a DCSB, you'd probably be looking at mounting it backwards with it partially hanging over the back of the truck. Your crossbars would need to be able to space out to a minimum of 1/3 the length of whichever tent you're looking at.

Here are some pics from our several time a year Big Beach Day. Got there at 7:30 am and setup. Cleaned out a big area of seaweed for the kids to play as well as a path to the beach. Listened to some great tunes, made pulled pork tacos and rice and stayed until 5:30 or so. Waves were awesome for boogie boarding and made kayaking VERY interesting!
