You are complaining about Tacoma not receiving any updates since your 2005 model, although technically it did get some changes in 2012, however minor, and are considering a Frontier that did not get any updates whatsoever since 2005?

Also, why not wait for the Colorado/Canyon later this year to at least test drive it if you are tired of your Tacoma. It is (or will be) imo the only real competition in the segment.

Sounds like you sold it a bit too soon. Just don't understand your reasoning, not that it matters...

I'm new to the tacoma world, but not mechanics or vehicles. Above is exactly why I'm awaiting delivery of a 2014. New model redesigns and changes will have growing pains. I will enjoy the 2014 for many years and then reap the benefits of the improved version later.

Actually I heavily research everything. The driver's seat for example, the seats have sensors in them for Air Bag deployment. Putting aside the cost of replacing the seat most of the options I found were not compatible with the Air Bag system. Further the interior wouldn't have matched. (And that would have hurt resale value)

Concerning the financial side of this, there were two main factors I considered.
    1. I NEVER had any plans to run my truck until the wheels fell off. My plan was always to replace this truck in a few years.

    2. The value of vehicles in the used car market, everything really, is currently inflated due to the bad economy (less people can afford to buy new). This is going on NOW and might not last. Had I waited to sell (for anyone that missed it my truck is SOLD already) I may not have gotten as much, adjusted for age and mileage of course.

Guys some of you are really taking this personally. My complaint isn't with the Tacoma, it is a great truck. Rather my complaint is with the fact that Toyota hasn't redesigned it yet. Further there are only RUMORS of a redesign, that have been floating around for years. So even if I waited another year Toyota might still only have this same truck to offer...

OP: No sense discussing the whats and whys being that the deal is done, the focus to me should be on your next vehicle. I personally would also like to wait for a redesign but as I'm sure you know, buying a 2013-14 then selling in 2-3 years or whenever they redesign would be a bad idea because not only would you be losing the initial "out of the dealership" depreciation but the 13-14s will drop in resale value when the new design comes.

So I don't think you should buy a 13 or 14 unless you really don't think there will be a redesign soon (safe bet) but if you aren't counting on a redesign, I would DEFINITELY buy a 2013 or 2014. Even though not much is changed, I can't imagine owning another truck and I feel you may realize that once you drive a frontier/colorado for a while.

However, before you buy a different mid-size, have you considered any full size trucks? I know many are now getting better MPGs than the Tacoma, and I am very interested in (yet uneducated on) the new Silverado's Flex Fuel engine, changing from 4 to 6 to 8 cylinders upon need. They also use E85 fuel which is about 20% cheaper in my area (unsure of its quality though) And since you're concerned with redesigns, I think the Silverado had a very nice redesign (Or GMC Sierrra, that's your call)

If you're thinking about Ford Eco Boost my stepdad drives one and its MPGs are nothing compared to what Ford advertises. Doesn't float my boat, but then again Ford never really has.

Just my 2 cents, good luck in your decision!!!

    EDIT:

I can actually vouch for the Silverado, I test drove one recently, I don't mean to sound like a fanboy but I am just fascinated by the whole cylinder thing I described.

And in summary: If you stay mid-size... I suggest a Tacoma heavily over anything, any year Tacoma

Geost1 - If you're wanting an upgrade you may try and envision yourself in a Tundra. For whatever reason the kind folks at Toyota are more likely to work out a deal for a Tundra than a Tacoma. I didn't heavily research Tundra's but I'm sure you can get one with all those nice options.

We don't have Yuengling where I live. So I literally started a petition at change.org to fix that.

Actually I am considering a full size but not very seriously. Putting aside the extra costs, I've got a small space to park the truck on. An extended cab mid-sized fits there just fine but with a full-sized I'd be limited to standard cab. The extra space an extended cab provides is something I use frequently. So from a practical standpoint, I'd get less use out of full-sized standard cab truck.

    Thanks for the suggestion though...

Hopefully that will force Toyota to jump on it with the Tacomas.

    What's Yuengling?
