David, have you done anything with Avocado Trees? I have a small grove of 19 Avocado trees and some fruit trees on my property. My system is pretty much all manual set up in 3 zones. The system was set up in 3 separate zones because the water pressure was not that great on the property (I have a 3 phase pump and a storage tank which assists the city feed). I water mostly when I think they should be watered. I bought some Watermark digital Irrometers but I haven't planted them yet. I think I'd like an automated system so it takes the guesswork out of them. I also am not sure if the sprinkler heads I'm using are appropriate for my grove.

IMO it shouldn't even be a debate. All the new science states natural gas from ground to exhaust pipe is WAY worse for the Earth than extracting/burning coal.

My opinion is not based on anything political either. Just science.

Anyone proud of that IMO is a complete freaking moron. Merica!

The political machine on both sides also thinks "natural" gas is the future... nothing but idiots IMO. They know the truth just turn their heads to align with industry at our cost.

Natural gas pipelines and wells release more methane into the atmosphere than any governmental or private industry will ever tell us about. Just a FYI methane is 70-80 times worse than Co2 when released.

Clean water and energy should of been addressed int he 70's. All this would be cleared up and we would be a much better nation if people actually cared. There is a reason why my 08' Tacoma with a 4.0 V6 gets worse milage than my 97' Ford with AWD and a 5.0 v8.

Not denying that one bit . The BC government is on a huge LNG kick right now , the Premier thinks that it will make us as rich as Alberta but at what cost ? Petronas has already earmarked $5 billion for LNG in BC

Ive seen the devastation first hand in PA over the past 6-7 years and it makes me sick.

Soon they will be drilling in our watershed and Philadelphia will be totally screwed because the state government is full of idiots. I'd love to trick them into drinking some of the water they say is safe just to see their reaction when you told them where it was from.

The retarded link that was posted earlier stating how NY was a bad place because they aren't drilling - yea they will be able to drink their water while PA rots in toxic waste in theirs.

Luckily NJ is a little smarter than PA or the most of the states concerning water and created the first national reserve in the country to protect one of the largest aquifers on the east coast. I grew up drinking it from a well.

According to the EPA it's about 20 times worse. Better than 70 to 80 times but granted, still worse. One upside is it doesn't last as long in the atmosphere as CO2.
    http://epa.gov/climatechange/ghgemissions/gases/ch4.html

It's bad when it leaks but it burns much cleaner than coal fired plants.
    http://www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-and-you/affect/natural-gas.html

The biggest problem though is what's the alternative? I have solar on my house; my house is all electric. But not everyone can afford it or lives in an area which can maximize it's potential. In Socal we get about 300 days of sunlight per year so it works well for me.

    Hi Robert,

I have done some work for avocado groves, but it was only a couple times since landscape irrigation is my primary business. However, I was the technical services manager for Agrifim Irrigation which is a manufacturer of both AG and landscape irrigation products.

On an avo grove in Pauma Valley (slope of Palomar Mountain) I installed a micro sprinkler system and on an avo grove in San Marcos I installed battery powered automatic valves... then I have done countless backyard fruit tree systems.

I favor dripperline circling the tree root zone as the most efficient water delivery system. However, grove owners or grove management prefers micro sprinklers as they are 'visual' and allows them to quickly see them working, plus they wet a larger area than a drip line covers. The problem I have with micro sprinklers is that they are easily damaged, clogged, and need frequent checking. Dripperline can be walked on, doesn't clog (when installed correctly), and can be operated anytime.

There are formulas for how much water a tree needs and since irrigation has known flow rates published, and we add an efficiency factor, we know how long to run a system each week. Dripperline as well as micro sprinklers have a very low flow rate compared to standard irrigation, so the demand on your well, tank, pipes is much less.

I have not promoted irrometers mostly because they require repeated servicing, and I like the system to be as much hands off as possible for my customers. I suggest you check with the University of California Ag Extension for their latest avocado guides to make sure you are comfortable with any changes to make. Battery operated valves (if you can't run wire to them) will make life easier for you too. I have had good luck with DIG and Hunter NODE battery controllers.

    :)

Maybe people shouldn't build city's in horrible spots then? I was all for not rebuilding the NJ/NY shores after Sandy hit and same goes for New Orleans. At some point people need to look at the big picture and stop inhabiting areas that put themselves at risk. Next time those areas get hit hard they should pay for rebuilding themselves. My tax dollars should be spent on the people who need it not the deniers.

If Germany, Japan, Sweden can figure out how to power their needs cleanly there is no excuse for American's denying the issues and putting their heads in the sand or worse yet the bible.

Luckily my company is net zero and one of the most efficient glass companies in North America so my work has minimal impact on the environment.

and like I said , I'm not shocked by your attitude towards it or your lack of understanding that Florida actually is running out of fresh water

Good thing you live in a secure, bottomless resource vacuum disconnected from the rest of the world and driven only by dollars. And fuck everyone next to you, and before you and after you.

I bet you don't use your turn signals either.

So in stead lets all just grow old and Die with nobody left on the earth. If thats the idea whats the point in living without any legacy to be seen, even people without kids leave a legacy with my kids cool Uncles and Aunts but with nothing after the last generations whats the point of it all.
