This came out really great - gave me some ideas for when I build my bumper. One noobish question... How did you cut out the hole for recessed hitch and shackles? I really would like to do it this way, but no idea what tools to start with.

    This ^^^^^

I was fortunate to have a plasma cutter for this. It could be accomplised with a 3" cutoff wheel on a die grinder.

Right on, thanks. small cutoff wheel is the ticket for me. Once I actually get started in a few months, I might come back with a few more questions.

Thanks for all the positive feed back everybody. I should also note I have installed some flush mount led's in the bumper too. They come on automatically with the reverse lights, or can be triggered from in the cab, or in the rear canopy.

These are Rigid knockoffs, but you are correct, neither these nor the Rigid will fit in a 4" bumper. The actual flat surface of the 4" bumper is probably just under 3" before it starts the wrap around.

I removed the flushmount faceplate from the LED and ground down around 1/4 from the top & bottom. The aluminum is very soft and easy to finish and taper the edges with a 80grit flapdisc. I then finished by hand with high grit paper. I then painted the whole thing flat black. Looks just like it came from the Chinese cloning factory like that ;)

The quality of the lights are good and they are significantly cheaper than the Rigids. More than bright enough for my application. Time will tell if they will last, but I can replace them 3x for the cost of the Rigids.

The whole spindle came as an assembly. It is made by Summit Machine. Their online store has been down for a long time though, you would have to contact them to purchase. I'm pretty sure they ate based out of Utah.

IMO it is THE highest quality, most bomber spindle available.

In this photo you can see to the back of the bumper. Do you wish you had used 4x6x1/4 at all, so you can't see the back? The bumper looks amazing, I'm just curious.:D

If you're talking about the gap between the bumper and bottom of the tailgate there's not much that can be down about that.. I don't like it on mine but found when building it that my bumper top is pretty much at its max height to allow for clearance when the tailgate is opened. You could add just a strip arose the back side to cover it but it's only be visual

I know this is an old thread but I just stumbled across it while searching for ideas on building my own high clearance with swingout bumper. Beauty job OP! Some great original ideas going on here and nice clean work, I'm thoroughly impressed! Just out of curiosity how's it holding up after being on the truck for 2 years now @tweeek ?

So not to flatter the OP TOO much, but this is a damn nice bumper. I'm designing a bumper pair for the front/back, and doing it all up in Solidworks... So heres the beginning of the clone. Going on a 2008 Access Cab, Black, it's fate.... :pCapture.jpg
