It's baffling that they can't come up with a frame that holds up better than this. They just bought back my 99 which I'm really grateful for, because it wouldn't have been worth much as trade or for sale with the suspension joint up inside the frame. (See below.) But, stop and think about it. They can make engines that last hundreds of thousands of miles with how many moving parts operating at thousands of RPMs with controlled combustion and they can't make a frame that holds it together for that time period.

I just bought a 2014 and I'm thinking I'm going to order a couple of cans of this and try some preventive maintenance, even though he dealer says they've addressed the frame rust problem.

Frame is made by Dana Corp, not Toyota. And it is a tragedy that this is still happening in 2014. I need to get back under my truck and wash and paint...

and Dana is no longer. They were smart enough to go bankrupt so now Toyota can't go after them even if they wanted to.

I believe the issue is horrible specifications from toyota and not a dana production issue. Either way Toyota is at fault. If dana was not making the frames to spec Toyota should of caught it.

FU Toyota and your 20 years of shitty truck frames.

I think you're right about Toyota's specs. I feel like I have read somewhere else that Dana made another Toyota frame, and it was just fine. I can't remember the details of it though. It was a while ago.

I received a call out of the blue the other day from the dealership where I bought my '07, they told me there was a safety recall on the frame and that they would take it for 2 days inspect it, apply some epoxy to correct the issue or if warranted replace the frame.

I started thinking as well about what else to have them do while the frame was off, rear leaf spring TSB was the first thing that came to mind.

Has anyone in Eastern Canada had this issue and is the recall extended up here? Just wondering since its pretty much the same environment.
Is there an actual recall number?

So am I the only one that had frame separation from rust on the passenger rear of the truck? Near the muffler.

Yep that spot. And wow your's is worse than mine was. I thought I would be upset if they did a recal on the frames... but the way they're treating people as well as how they treated me, im glad I moved on.

Cant wait to see this epoxy solution either

that is what mine looks like. i went to the dealer to try and complain and they told me they wont even entertain the complaints anymore it all has to go to toyota corporate.

so i sent corporate a long email explaining the situation, what the dealer told me, and how i've tried to remedy it. i received an email back saying we are sorry you are having an issue with your frame. you should bring your truck in for the gas pedal TSB and have that fixed.

whut........thanks for completely ignoring my "real" issue at hand here. depending on how much longer this frame holds up, i will really have to think long before purchasing another toyota truck. i'm doing my best to keep up with protecting this frame

I was not happy with the experience at the dealer yesterday over this. They did the same thing to me, danteisme, wanted to do the gas pedal and the access can recall, but not look at the frame. Funny, there were 3 tacoma frames on skids just outside the service bay, so I know someone is getting their frames replaced.

I contacted toyota corporate thru the owners website, got a reference number. Haven't received an email back on that yet, but I had that sinking feeling so I called the 1-800 number yesterday as well. Talked to a rep and got another reference number and spoke at length about the service campaign that was just released. Didn't have any info on when the rest of the states would be eligible, but she kept repeating this campaign was very VIN specific which leads me to believe they'll deny most than agree to remedy the issue.

FWIW, I looked at my Dad's 04 F-150 frame and it was 10x in better shape than the Tacoma. A good bath, some touch up and it would look pretty new. 120k on it.

I'd replaced the rear bumper reinforcement bar before leaving the country, wire wheeled the tow hitch, primered and painted it. I crawled under there this morning and sure enough, the tow hitch is rusting again right thru the primer and paint...
