AWS uses a proprietary Linux based Host kernel for the guest VMs. However they do support VMware vmdk and Citrix (filenae) importing which is fabulous.

AWS still is the pioneer of cloud computing still. But with google as a provider now, things may get interesting.

    Steam Streaming is pretty sweet.

Played Grid 2, Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2, UT3, and Hawken to test out a bit... all works pretty well. Not flawless, but pretty damned well.

Yup... seriously.. Tablets aren't even on my radar now.. and I've been wanting a good tablet for years. That Acer is tits.. I'm gonna play with it more tonight. lol

Probably gonna copy Colby and get the same one. Looked at all the chromebooks last night, and this Acer is by far the best bang for the Buck.

The best way to learn a new operating system is to throw away all your old operating systems and just go with it

it also depends on your goals for using *nix OS's.

For starters I would either install a dual boot (more complex, but "fun" to try)

OR... just download VMPlayer and drop a couple different distros on your maine machine like Fedora (based on Centos/Redhat) and Ubuntu (Debian). This setup is DAMN easy because you can start/stop machines quickly and try things out without booting into a whole new environment and tying up your Windows machine.. Plus it lets you transition easier while possibly looking up documentation/howto's in your Windows machine. If you are about to hack your VM into pieces: make a snapshot, hack, reload snapshot. Easy.

Here's a starter on the differences between Fedora and Ubuntu.

    https://www.udemy.com/blog/fedora-vs-ubuntu/

I use Fedora because of its closeness to the server setups I deploy (LAMP stack)..thus the commands and paths to system files, etc are very close. Fedora + GNome can be a fun balance between visual and CLI.

Use Ubuntu for larger software support base and for more of a user-centric feel. More software options, ease of installation, driver support, etc. Plus Valve Software's Steam. WIN.
