Excessive Front Brake Dust

I have only 1200 miles on my 09 Tacoma and I have never seen this much black front brake dust in my life. I drive a good amount of highway miles too, so it's not like I'm leaning on the brakes. The 99 Ranger I just traded in would not have this much in 5000 miles. Anyone else notice this?

Anyone use some brand of pad that can cut down on this? What is your experience and brake and rotor life?

 

it may be just because it is new and both the pads and rotors need to be broken in, if you replace em i reccomend ceramic pads

I'm at 8k now and don't have nearly the problem I had when newer. Once these wear down I'll give ceramic a try.

Having a new tacoma is a new experience. Your foot is probably very hard on the accelerator and brakes. I've got 68K on my truck and still do the same.

LOL and if you see a shit load of oil sprayed everywhere in you engine compartment don't worry about it. Your a he-man truck owner thats why you bought a truck anyway. Good grief.

Normal.... and it'll get much less. Mine did the same thing when it was new.

Keep the wheels clean. I wouldn't wanna leave that dust on there and find out it'll ruin the wheels. Besides, it looks like shit.

 

They make a product that goes behind the wheel. it is black and kinda blends in. You will never get brake dust again. You won't see any rotors or calipers etc, but no brake dust.

 

Interesting ...what is it? I would think it would mess with the balance of the tire, but if it worked could be awesome

Never tried them myself. Worked woth a guy who had a set on his 350Z. He used to get tons of dust. He had these installed and he loved them. He never complained about a balance problem. He might not have noticed either as I never directly asked him about it. So do some research if you are really interested.

 

Get low dust brake pads when your current ones wear out, that's what I will do. I had a 97 Ranger before, I had I think it was Pro-Stop Ceramic Brake pads, they were very good, very very very little dust.

 

I used to have these on a GMC full size, never had any issues. They worked great. That truck made a ton of brake dust...used to drive me crazy.

 

Quality? No. A softer compound makes for better performance but also makes more dust. Ceramics, being a harder compound, don't make as much dust but don't perform as well either. You want to see brake dust? Check out a late model Corvette.

I have OEM pads and they have been replaced once since they replaced my worped rotors under warranty. I get a ton of dust. After I wash my wheels they are dusty to the touch after a 5 mile drive.
Any recommendations? EBC has a red stuff but it's not available for truck.

 

The softer the pad the more dust, so if you switch to a ceramic performance pad you'll actually see more dust. It's why German luxury sedans always have really dirty front wheels.

I would definitely stay with the OEM until you need to replace them.

I personally like Hawk pads, they even advertise less dust, as they are not a ceramic compound.
