Okay just put air lift air bags on my truck . The question I have is can I jack the truck up and let the suspension hang downward (think car lift that goes off the frame rather then suspension)???..

Completely deflate the bags before lifting the vehicle off the ground by the frame.

It is best to lift by the axle. But if you have to lift by the frame, deflate the bags. This is why I do my own tire rotations/maintenance, to know I won't damage them.

If the airbags are built for your truck, and the suspension is stock, there should be no issue, the shocks at full extension should prevent overextension of the airbags. The time issues can arise is when the airbags are inflated to higher pressures - the risk of damaging the shocks or shock mounts is very real. I would not be at all concerned about lifting by the frame with 5psi in the bags, that will be virtually NIL by the time the suspension extends.

If the suspension is not stock, all bets are off and its up to you to determine if the bags extend far enough for maximum down travel. If not, cradles are available.
