I wish I had seen this thread a while ago. But if I had I wouldn't have found this site.

Below is a link that will let you download maps which have all the GA Forestry Roads on them. I spoke with a "ranger" and he gave me this link. I was looking for some camping next to a river but then my need to get the taco out there kicked in and I asked him what's the hardest forestry Road to drive, and he quickly answered 79.

I'm going to check out some roads up near the NC border around a camping area called Tallulah River. Supposedly its a Forestry Road back to a camping area that's next to a river. I'm leaving today so I'll let you all know what it was like and if I was able to talk the wife into exploring some of the other F.R.'s.

But I'm down with getting a few of us together to go take take on some forestry roads. I'm completely stock at the moment so I'm looking to keep it pretty easy, plus I'm not interested in tearing up my truck!

Last thing before I post the link, Who's interested in having a Mod day? I'm about to order my lift kit and would love some experience to help out. I've got lots of tools, air compressor, jacks, beer, etc....the only thing I don't have is a spring compressor. I live on the east side of Athens so let me know if your interested.

    Here's the link: http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/maps/

Dude your going campin in my area.... tallulah river is on the other side of the county..... IMO not one of the best places to camp in Rabun.... its always crowded and hard as hell to fish the river bc of all the ppl up there.... there are many more places to camp in rabun county that are way better than this place IMO

As for the forest sevrice roads in that area.... most of them are nice gravel roads but if you go over high tower you are in for a little bit of a ride..... to get to hightower it will be on your left......you have to ford the river.... the river is real shallow so dont be worried..... also on your map look up Colman river...... there is some wheeling back in that area

    Hey bwood,

Got back this afternoon, but didn't stay at the Tallulah River camp ground but did stay near there at Sandy Bottom. It was a bit crowded, but it was still nice. You are exactly right about the roads up there, basically they seemed almost like paved roads except they were dirt. Def. not a place to go for any wheelin'.

I saw a road up there called Colman River, is that the area you're talking about?
What do you mean about Hightower? Is it pretty extreme or something?

Ill try to find you a forest service road number for hightower.... it not really that extreme but parts of it get alittle ruff.... colman river on the other hand..... there is not really any "wheeling" out there but still a nice drive out that way....

I went up to amacalola state park this past sunday with a buddy of mine, (will post pics as soon as i get them) but it was pretty bad ass, had to pull a 2wd trailblazer out of a "puddle" that was about 3 feet deep. it was awesome, didnt go through it as i am stock, but ive got a vid or my buddy going through it and his 35s are under water. its bad ass and I would def go there again.

So i cant post the video here, but here are some pictures....nothing too extreme, but fun, and we found a bunch of trails that are more suited for bigger trucks than mine. I guess that means i have to get a lift and some bigger tires

EDIT: obviously the first 3 are of the trailblazer stuck in the "puddle", and of him being towed out, thats me in the last two, planning on doing a few more mods to it within the next month or so, but its a work in progress. I did get my first scratch on her that day, trail got a little narrow, but id rather do it wheelin than in some parking lot.

If anyone wants to meet sometime just let me know, im always down for the cause

Looks like you had a lot of fun! Wish I had been there! Although I'm also completely stock at the moment. I wonder how long it took that nonTrailblazer to shampoo all the mud out of the floor of his ride!!! LOL

Thanks for sharing the pictures, what forestry road were you on up there? Oh, and post a link to the video on youtube or something...I'd love to see that!
